We have been working on and off with Tom at Compassion by Design for over 8 months and our experience has been wonderful. We purchased our first home recently and hired Tom right after to help with some remodel designs and permits. From day one the service has been great and his services are high quality but very affordable. Definitely been a roll-coaster process as the home we bought had way more issues than we planned for. And with contractor issues, delays, mistakes by contractors, increasing costs, large scope of work expansion, etc. The home remodel is still a work in progress very close to the end. Despite all this craziness the one stable partner we have had has been Tom. He is knowledgeable, does great work and you can trust him, which in this current market is nearly impossible to find. He continues to go out of his way to help us spending those extra hours and always responding to our emails. Overall, we would highly recommend Compassion by Design for all your design needs.

Tom and Compassion by Design are by far my favorite vendors with regards to my home remodel project. The quality of work is superb, they're extremely knowledgeable and are always responsive (a rarity in this industry I've found). Compassion by Design was a great fit for us because we're doing a kitchen+bathroom remodel that requires plans and permits but not necessarily an architect. Unlike most designers I interviewed, Tom had the technical experience to provide drafts. Equally important, they were great communicators, explaining up front the pricing, timeline and stages involved in drafting and getting us permit ready. During the design process Tom did a great job balancing what we wanted and pushing our vision beyond what we thought it could be. He always responded promptly and ultimately managed communications with the county building office. Perhaps the one area for improvement was the project estimate, it was extremely difficult to find a GC who fell within the ballpark of estimated costs. However I would definitely use them again and highly recommend!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We have flexible pricing and bill options. Typically, we recommend fix sum by phase which allows our client to "pay as you go" while knowing exactly what you are getting for the fee.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We love first connecting via phone or zoom call for an initial consultation. For more complex projects, we may schedule a walkthrough or on-site visit, otherwise, we are well equipped to provide our services remotely and quickly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our staff consists of interior designers, project managers, architects and engineers. We also have excellent relationships with local contractors that provide valuable feedback on construction feasibility and cost.
