About
As a freelance musician without winning an audition I have performed with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera & Ballet on bassoon & contrabassoon. I am currently on the sub list of the San Francisco Opera & Ballet and am still active as a performer from time to time. I am currently on the saxophone sub list for the San Francisco Symphony, Opera & Ballet. As far as I know I am the only person in the Bay Area that is on the Bassoon/contra & sax substitute lists.
The variable nature. One day I'll be playing with the San Francisco Ballet on classical bassoon. The next week with Music Circus playing an array of instruments from Bass Sax, clarinet flute and then to tenor recorder or maybe bassoon.

Hired on Thumbtack
Lawrence Rhodes helped my 10 year old son with saxophone lessons this summer. He is a wonderful teacher that focuses on details and repetition. With Lawrence's help my son really improved his sax skill and the quality of music/sound he produces. Lawrence is very patient with his students and was very flexible in scheduling lessons. We were really lucky to find him and I hope to hire him again in the future.

We feel very blessed that Lawrence has come into our daughter's life. His skill in teaching both flute and saxophone has helped our daughter quickly gain skill and confidence with her 2nd instrument. He also spent time teaching her advanced tricks like alternate fingerings.
His approach is old school, in that some of his exercises are maybe 100-200 years old, and he maintains emphasis on the foundations (pitch, tone, breathe, etc).
But we really appreciate his enthusiasm when our daughter's hard work pays off. He's also really easy going and offers flexible scheduling.
Highly recommend, especially if your child is interested in pursuing multiple woodwind instruments.
