Khushboo S. says, "I had 25+ lbs of pregnancy weight I wanted to get rid of. I started with Mike 2-3 days a week for 45 months whole body weight training. Mike is a great personal instructor - very polite and punctual. I really liked his routine - it was more of a full body workout than a particular day for a particular part like other instructors did, which really reduced body soreness post exercise sessions. I really liked his approach to weight loss too - he recommended getting a dexa scan to better understand which exercises he should concentrate on. It’s 3 months in and I have been able to lose 10 lbs. His diet plan was also great, I couldn’t follow all but it had great recommendations on how to speed the weight loss."See more

Lila T. says, "I’ve been training with Meli for a year now, and I can honestly say she’s the best personal trainer I’ve ever worked with! Not only has she helped me get stronger, improve my form, and stay consistent with my workouts, but she’s also made the whole process fun and motivating. I used to dread the gym, but now I actually look forward to our sessions. What sets Meli apart is that she doesn’t just focus on workouts—she cares about overall health and well-being. She checks in regularly, helps with nutrition and meal planning, and always tailors each session to fit my goals and schedule. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and patient, which has made such a difference in my fitness journey. If you’re looking for a female personal trainer in the Bay Area who makes training effective, enjoyable, and sustainable, I can’t recommend Meli enough. She’s a true professional, a wonderful coach, and someone who genuinely cares about her clients’ success."See more

Bill M. says, "After a few years of bad habits and a lack of proper exercise, I decided to join my local gym and get back on the health and fitness track. I wanted coaching, guidance and supervision and was ready to work with a coach. My goals were straightforward - lose a few pounds, improve muscle tone, feel better overall, and make health and fitness a sustainable part of my routine again as it had been for many years prior. I also wanted to respect my age (60 when I met Nicky) and acknowledge my sore shoulders and lower back. I was paired with Nicky because of his expertise in recovery and physical therapy. With Nicky, I learned the real meaning of focused breathing, slow controlled full range of motion, and the importance of stretching, massage and recovery. I wish I could say that my stretching habits are where I want them to be, but I'm working on it. Ok, I'm working on working on it! Nicky truly helped me re-establish my own mind-body connection through mindful intent, thinking and focusing on every repetition as opposed to simply cranking out reps and sets. Every time I do something physical that results in an ache or pain, I picture myself having a conversation with Nicky to figure out what caused it, and consider adjustments for moving forward to avoid a recurrence.  During my first session with Nicky, I was surprised by how long we spent talking about my health and fitness journey, my bad habits, my self-assessment, and my goals for moving forward. He wasn't just learning about me to be sociable, he was figuring out how to use his knowledge, skills, abilities and gifts to meet me where I was, and determine how to help me help myself get to where I want to be. A wise and sagely strategy for someone so young. He genuinely and intentionally connected with me to help me. I know he looks for that connection with each of his clients and it is that approach that sets Nicky apart from other coaches."See more

Danielle A. says, "I usually just play on soccer and tennis teams to motivate myself to workout on a regular basis, I ended up never reaching my goals that I was seeking until I had met Joselle. Joselle changed my life, simple as that. As a former Division 1 athlete at the College of William and Mary, I thought I had done it all...spinning/peloton, crossfit, cardio challenges, signing up for marathons, you name it. However, I had never felt better about my body and health until after 2 months of training with her. Even better, she really catered the workout to my needs and lifestyle. Her work ethic is above and beyond, it's really incredible to witness her passion. Words don't do her justice, I highly recommend Joselle as a personal trainer."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
