After recently discovering Thumbtack, I've had 2 stellar experiences hiring service providers through them and have been equally impressed by the other professionals who contacted me even if they were not who I ended up choosing to hire.
Timothy Kolowitz is the exception to that and this incident has definitely made me apprehensive about using Thumbtack in the future.
To be clear, I DID NOT CHOOSE MR. KOLOWITZ FOR MY PAINTING JOB. So, the fact that I just discovered a negative review about me-written by him- is more than a bit unsettling. (I also question how Thumbtack screens these reviews before posting and have expressed my concerns in both an email and a voicemail to their head office). After just speaking with someone from their support team, I hope they will do the right thing and remove him from their database. Given his irrational response to not getting hired, I also question how much he was actually vetted before being listed as a provider. Unprofessional behavior like this casts a bad light over the many fantastic individuals that are also listed here and are doing things right.
How is it that this person was allowed to turn his sour grapes for not being chosen into a nasty review about the person who chose not to hire him? (Again, NOT a review about someone who he had done work for and was hired by to complete a job- someone he merely offered a bid to). I had no idea this was even allowed! And why?
As a woman, home alone during the visit, I thought Timothy was rather pushy when I wrapped up the meeting and walked him to the door. We'd just spent nearly a half hour here looking at one room. He'd already been given all the specs and other information for the project the night before. And over the last several minutes he had repeatedly told me he'd just have to go home and think about his bid. Great, I think. So the appointment's over. Instead, he became confrontational and questioned me as to why I was cutting him short and said he felt like he was now annoying me and that I was rushing him away. I was very uncomfortable at this point and although his demeanor gave me plenty of reasons to question why he was even listed as a professional on this site, I really felt it was better to just thank him for coming and say goodbye, than have him in my home any longer. Obviously, from what I see now, I made the right choice. I have shared my comments with Thumbtack privately, and also plan to do so with the BBB as well.
I chose to use Thumbtack so it would make searching for a professional EASIER. I never expected that being bullied and harrassed by someone in their database would be part of the deal.
