Introduction: I specialize in tutoring Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-calculus, as well as writing for students of all ages.
I can come to your home or meet you in a public place like the library. I am available for tutoring on weekday evenings and anytime on the weekends.
I have a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University, and therefore, I have taken math coursework in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Engineering Calculus (all four semesters) and Differential Equations.
For those courses that I specialize and tutor students, I received an A grade in the courses. In taking a college entrance math assessment at CCSF (City College of San Francisco), I scored in the 93 percentile wrt math.
I've tutored students from elementary school age all the way up to college age. I tutor the students using their own school math books and homework so that I can help the student where she/he is having problems in understanding the material. Additionally, I have supplement books that I use to reinforce the student's knowledge and help the student validate for themselves that they understand the material (and build up their self confidence).
In addition to having a very strong math background, I have excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. I received an A grade in all English composition courses in high school as well as an A grade in the college English composition class (English 1A).
I've helped students proofread and edit reports as well as helped them with their writing. Additionally, I've worked in legal offices where I did a significant amount of work in writing and editing patents.
Lastly, as an engineer, I also write many reports and memos in my current company on a daily basis and have even helped other junior engineers edit their reports, memos, and emails. I have excellent people skills and work well with students of all ages. I am extremely instrumental in helping every student realize his/her potential and helping the student be good at both math and writing.
With tutoring, time and practice (doing sample problems, analyzing examples and knowing how to approach the problems), my tutored students were able to get grades of B+ and higher (depending upon the amount of effort from the student). I work very closely with every student to see how she/he approaches problems, and I'll help steer her/him in the right direction. I focus on providing my students with a step-by-step approach to tackling math problems which helps the student successfully solve math problems quickly and accurately.
For those students that I've tutored, they've received much detailed content out of every tutoring session. I focus on helping the student develop different approaches for tackling problems. For one student that had received a D grade on his last algebra exam, he was able to pull a B+ on his very next exam with only two tutoring sessions.
Personally, I think he would have gotten an A since he advised me that he finished the exam 15 minutes early but didn't want to double check his answers.
I ensure that out of every tutoring session, the student gains strong fundamentals that they can work with and practice with on their own to get them to the next level of understanding. I'm very conscientious, thorough, and detail-oriented. Before I start every tutoring session, I establish the baseline of the student's understanding and areas of weaknesses. I also ask the student to clearly define what areas she/he needs help in and ensure that the student grasps the key concepts for her/his weak areas before I end the tutoring session.
When I help a student better her/his math and writing skills, it's extremely rewarding to me. Therefore, you can be assured that if I am your tutor, I will ensure your success.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you be successful in your math and writing studies.
