When I had my baby back in December, I never knew I could experience so much joy and.....jiggle. I gained 35 pounds during my pregnancy, and while every pound was worth it, I didn't anticipate the near disappearance of muscle strength, tone & balance. I started training 2x week with Scott at j+k fitness studio when I was about 10 weeks postpartum, and from the start, he has been mindful of the physical changes I experienced during/after my pregnancy (weak lower back, sciatica & tight shoulders for me). I hoped to lose some of that baby jiggle in a steady & healthy way since I'm BF'ing, and Scott is making that happen. I could barely do a push-up when we first started, and core work? Forget about it...but these days I'm able to keep up with Scott as he moves me through challenging and creative rounds of circuit training/boxing without compromising form and safety. He's also an intuitive reader of my limits ... just when I feel like I have no more reps in me, Scott pushes me to squeeze in a few more and to embrace the burn. I've just started to fit into my pre-preggo jeans and, more importantly, I'm beginning to feel like I own my body again. Can't wait to see what new exercises Scott throws my way!

I contacted J+K Fitness a few months before my wedding, with the goal get a bit more toned before my big day. I had set very simple goals for myself, since I didn't have an interest in drastically changing my diet or working out every single day. But working out with Jae twice a week delivered results well above what I had anticipated. Within just a few weeks, I felt much stronger and more energized than I had in a long time. After a few months, I have dropped over 5 pounds and shaved inches off my waist and hips - something I didn't set as a goal, because I didn't think it would achievable without going "extreme!" My workouts were challenging but enjoyable, and Jae always knew when was the right time to push me. Working out with Jae, and the other trainers at J+K Fitness, was not only rewarding but also very fun. The team is comprised of knowledgeable, qualified and friendly trainers - each with their own unique work-out style. I recommend J+K Fitness to everyone/ anyone I can!

If you want to raise the bar and challenge yourself, Jae and Scott are your men. I have been training with the two of them alternately for about a year and a half now. These guys push me beyond my limits. After each session, I literally have almost no breath left. I can only breathe a sigh of relief that I survive. When I decided to work with a personal trainer, my goals are pretty straightforward. I want more muscle tone and definition, gain strength, and maintain a leaner frame. Realistically, I probably will not be able to achieve the desired results if I do it on my own. Prior to training with Jae for the first time, I remember Jae asking me if I do not mind being pushed. With no hesitation, my response was, “No, I do not mind being pushed”. Perhaps I should thought about his question a little longer. Day one, Jae did not waste any time. The difficulty level on my exercise was upped by several notches. It was intense with almost no recovery time in between exercises. It felt like a punishment. In the first few minutes of the session with Jae, I was bathing with my own sweat. Fast forward, every time I meet with Jae, I still sometimes get nervous and doubt my capability to finish my exercise routine. At the end of each session, however, I feel I gain instant results. My body does feel a lot tighter, especially my arms and upper body. Scott, on the other hand, always changes the routine. My exercise routines with him are not predictable, which proves to be effective in my case. My muscles do not get complacent. He would make me do, for example, different variations of push-ups… push-up on a bosu ball, push-up using dumb bells, push-up on one leg, push-up with one arm, push-up with no hands (just kidding!). And those cardio exercises… not my favorite. These are incredibly exhausting! These, however, are the types of exercises that I probably need the most. I would not normally do these on my own. In addition, I should mention that Scott is pretty cool and fun to train with. Although the routines are tough, humor made the session bearable. Lastly, Scott typically spends the last few minutes of the session with stretching, which is nice. It relaxes my muscles after a long intense and vigorous workout…

Jae is an absolute pleasure to work with! He is very knowledgeable about exercises and form and adjusts each workout to best fit your needs. He has a great balance of pushing you to work hard, but making sure it's within your reach, so it's not too hard or too easy. As a recent mom, he got me back in shape and looked at the whole person to advise me on healthy habits from exercise to nutrition. In addition to all that, he is a pleasure to be around, very easy to talk to, flexible and eager for any feedback to optimize your experience. For example, after telling him that I used to play some sports, he incorporated some exercises related to basketball and soccer that I really enjoyed. And he just makes the work out fun, even though you feel it the next day!

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Many Clients who come to us are looking to make dramatic changes in their appearance and feel great about being in their own bodies. Our mission is to guide them safely and intelligently to their goals. In addition we have many clients with a host of ailments (lower back issues, ACL to MCL injuries, rotator cuff issues, muscle imbalances that could potentially lead to a major injury/dysfunction... Our mission is to develop safe and challenging workouts for them. We're firm believers that injuries shouldn't limit a clients' ability to exercise and affect their quality of life.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

There a few attributes that would be on the top of my list if I was looking for a fitness trainer. Accountable, inspiring, motivated, empathetic, and invested in a client's success in reaching/attaining his/her goals. Experience and knowledge and possess an accredited certification from either NASM, ACSM, CSCS. A solid trainer should exemplify that balance between emotion and science and have a body of work to prove he or she has helped a few people... Also don't hesitate to interview a few different trainers, you'll ultimately be spending more time with them than some of your friends. Make sure it's a good fit and if you're not sure try a session or two with them.
