I offer private and small group sewing lessons from my North Oakland studio which is a 7-minute walk from MacArthur BART and an easy on/off to I-580. I've taught sewing for 18 years to thousands of students, and together we've worked on projects ranging from bathing suits to quilts. I specialize in beginners! My students say I"m patient and thorough. I keep my classes small (8 students or less) so you get a personalized instruction experience. Getting to know my students and helping them learn skills they didn't think they could learn. It's gratifying to watch a student's face light up as they discover a new technique and master it!(show more)

I'm madly in love with fiber and have taught many people about threads and colors. Too many people think needlepoint is stuffy, boring, and elitist; in reality, it's more creative, affordable, and easier than many other forms of needlework. I've developed many ways to take the mystery out of needlepoint, so that it becomes handwork anyone can enjoy. I'm dedicated to making needlepoint fast, fun and affordable.(show more)

I use art as a way to teach people how to access their creative mind. You may have heard talk about a right brain and left brain thinking; I am here to tell you we all have both. Nobody is running around with half of their skull empty. We expect everyone to learn math and english even when they are more artistic. We should challenge everyone with creative exercise in the same way. You are as creative as you train yourself to be. Children are really good at it because they don't set limits. So why not encourage them to stay creative? I work with my students in a very different way, I do not hold up an example of my work and make them copy it, nor do I purchase kits for them to make. As a matter of fact I don't even care if they make a finished product at all. I introduce a combination of materials each session and I explain how they are to be used and what I get them to do. I then invite the students to try. My greatest joy comes when one or two look up and say "can we do whatever we want"? Such a request screams to me. There is no intention of a final product, just a child asking if they can explore their own imagination. This is where genious lives, and this is how I teach. I can come to your home or to your school. I am available to help you reevaluate your current art program. I am also available to adults and corporations who are looking for executive training in creativity and managing creative people.(show more)
