Introduction: Shawn is a handyman specializing in chimney cleaning, dryer vents and gutter cleaning and repair. We offer repairs to fences, windows, painting and much more. Just ask. We service the entire Santa Clara Valley from Gilroy to Palo Alto and Milpitas, Santa Cruz mountains to Mt. Hamilton. We charge a travel rate of .80c a mile to your site. On handyman repairs, we have an hourly rate which depends on the on the job type. We have a flat rate for chimneys and dryer vents, plus travel charges on all work. It is best to speak with Shawn to obtain the clearest amount of charges. We are an advanced maintenance service provider for yards and houses. We are a.k.a Shawn's Dryer Vent & Chimney Service. Call Shawn's cell or his office, but he is never in his office. He is out in the field. He is easy and polite to speak with, and you will not be sorry you called him. Please say you saw him in Thumbtack. Thanks. Note: The best way to make contact with Shawn and to answer your questions or learn more information is to call him. If you send an e-mail, his father will receive it and Shawn will not. The father has a computer and puts Shawn's ads on as a favor for Shawn. Shawn has no personal e-mail and does not have a computer. His father cannot answer any questions concerning jobs that you may have questions about. So please call Shawn on his cellphone. It is more businesslike to speak on the phone, as he will need to ask you questions concerning any jobs you have need of for him to give you an honest estimate for. Email is just not good for this, as there are too many unknowns which Shawn needs to ask you about, and e-mails take too long. That is why Mr. Bell invented the telephone. If Shawn is in the middle of a job, he may not answer his cell, but you are invited to leave a clear message for him to return your call. Always give him your day number and your evening number, so he can reach you when he has free time. We offer professional fireplace chimney cleaning, dryer vent cleaning (over 20 years), also fence repairs and building repairs, painting, window repairs, screen door repairs, wood work repairs, and many other odd jobs and repairs to your home, garage, fences, house, yard and many other small odd things that need a personal repair attitude. We're inventive, so we can figure out how to repair most household things with a logical remedy. Dryer vents are cleaned with respect. We go anywhere the vent goes to clean it correctly. We clean the entire vent from the dryer to the extreme outlet. He is not lazy about this. Dryer vents are cleaned for single houses and apartment complexes, condos, laundry mats, anywhere where there is a clothes dryer. We clean or repair/replace vents if needed. We're not afraid to go on the roof or under the house. We do the job like it's our own house - correctly. Expert work is finished in a logical manner. Expert chimney cleaning is done with no rushing. We clean the entire chimney system, including 1. top spark arrestor, 2. flu/chimney, 3. the smoke chamber located above the damper plate, 4. the damper plate, 5. fire box. Free inspection on the written report is done with cleaning. We have over 20 years of experience in Santa Clara Valley. We are not a fly-by-night, winter-only chimney scam. We're here all year long, and we do the job correctly. Be cautious of many chimney cleaning people, as they do not take the time to clean the entire chimney system correctly. If they take less than 1 hour, beware. Always ask how long they take before you hire them; if it is less than 1 hour, then beware of shoddy work. It should take approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours to do the cleaning correctly. All 5 sections should be cleaned, not just the chimney top and the fire box below. We also clean the smoke shelf, the smoke chamber and the spark arrestor. All of this takes time and arm-and-hand effort. We do gutter cleaning and repairs, and trim trees away from your house and gutter if needed. We clean houses or yard-apartment complexes/rental sites. We are happy to work with real estate managers and property owners. If Shawn is in the middle of a job, he may not answer his cell, but you are invited to leave a clear message for him to return your call. Always give him your day number and your evening number, so he can reach you when he has free time. We have a few used wood stoves for sale to possibly fit your fireplace or free-standing stoves also. We offer fair pricing and quality-personal work. We are reliable. References are given. You won't be sorry for using Shawn. Everyone loves his attitude and work. Because of past experiences, the following are written for your education. Note: There is no such thing as a license for chimney sweeps issued in CA. Neither the state nor the county or the city have license requirements specifically for chimney sweeping. There is no such thing, honestly. Contact the city you live in and learn the truth. We do have a city business license as is required. If any chimney sweep claims to have a license other than a business license, then you need to investigate what type and where the license they have is issued. Most likely, it will be a contractor's license, which has nothing to do with cleaning chimneys, unless they are rebuilding the chimney. These people are contractors who most likely could not make a living building houses. There is no such legal license issued for chimney sweeping in California. The best method to learn if the chimney sweep you are contacting might be doing a good job is to learn how long they will take to clean your fireplace system. We personally have never been able to clean a chimney system in less time than 75 minutes and usually it takes 90 minutes. When you call around, tell them you do not have much time to spare when they arrive and you need it done as quickly as possible; ask them how fast can they clean your chimney system. Then they'll tell you what they really do. Just remember, with all the scrubbing and scraping, it takes time to clean a system correctly. It usually takes at least 90 minutes as a rule. This is a "word to the wise". Do not assume anything, ask lots of questions like how long it takes; have them name all the parts they clean. They should say 1) chimney flue, 2) spark arrestor, 3) smoke shelf above the damper plate, 4) the damper plate both top and bottom, 5) the fire box and throat. They should hand scrub everything with a smoke shelf brush at the bottom and a flue brush on a pole for the chimney flue. They should clean the spark arrestor so it breaths properly. Do they do a visual inspection for cracks? Do they give you a written inspection report on paper? Do they use a vacuum to keep the room dust free? Do they protect the floors? Do they offer a smoke test to confirm any cracks they point out as a danger to see if they really are dangerous? A smoke test takes about an hour to perform, and it can prove if any cracks seen or unseen are dangerous or not. Don't let them sell you any fixes to cracks unless they perform a smoke test first.
