I had a 60ft eucalyptus tree removed from my backyard by Angele's Tree Service. His bid was the best, he was prompt, he said it would take 2 days and it did. When he was done my yard was totally cleaned up.

Working with Rich was phenomenal. My lawn and back yard were a complete mess before he showed up. He was nice and easy to deal with. His team went above and beyond, making sure I was completely satisfied with the leaf cleanup, tree trimming, weeding, weed prevention, and other assorted cleanup I requested. And, to top it all off, the price was very reasonable! I'll continue to use their services for all of my lawn care needs going forward.

The team of Espinoza Tree Care has done an excellent job trimming our tall trees which included an overgrown mulberry tree and two extremely tall palm trees where they pulled the husks, removed the dead palm fronds as well as all of the seed pods before they could fall and injure someone. Espinoza Tree Care also offers various payment options which was one of the deciding factors for choosing them. We also appreciate the fact they use our preferred communication forms of email and text messages. We will definitely hire them again!

Carlos and team showed up as scheduled for a free estimate and after agreeing to the price and project details started work in less than a week. The work was completed in 4 days much to our satisfaction. We had them remove some concrete pathways, a small yucca tree and all the old/dead grass. They did a great job and we really love the outcome. We have a new backyard that we love and can use now for our growing family. They walked us through how to use the sprinkler system and how to treat the new sod for the first 2 weeks. The place was left tidy and cleaned up. 5-stars would have been earned had they followed our original agreement on how we wanted the playground area border constructed. Finer details matter and that area just had a few things that we didn't totally love. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone. Good quality work and very competitive pricing. Just be clear on what you want, show example pictures and be sure the scope of work matches what you agreed on.

Ricardo is very professional. He quickly comprehended the issues with the irrigation system. We now have 2 timers one front and one back keeping things straight. Ricardo put in an all new drip system for the front which included new valves ( fewer than before) and did not utilize the old problematic sprinkler pipes. All plants, roses, lavender, fruit trees now receive the right amount of water. No more hand watering!! Thank you Ricardo!!!

Miguel, Luis and team did an fantastic job at our new place. We wanted to get started with landscaping and maintenance but had to clean up the yard that had a lot of outgrowth, poison ivy, tall grass etc. Their quote was not the lowest but the most knowledgeable as they scoped it correctly. Miguel was in contact through the process and was sure to only eliminate the bad species. We are considering hiring them ongoing maintenance as well

They cleaned up perfectly. They do even more than tree work, too! Next I'll also hire them for some serious bush pruning.

Ricardo and Jose did a great job cleaning up the front of property by removing unwanted sod and adding red mulch to give a pop of color! They also cleaned up 20 pom pom trees and made them nice and round again. Weeding was done around the property and we are now planning on what to do in Phase 2 of shrub clean up, updating rock mulch and tree stump removal.

Enrique showed up on time and went above and beyond for the extensive one-time weeding project I hired him for. Not only did he beautifully clear the areas we discussed he also cleared a few additional small areas and also cleared all the weeds in the sidewalk/walkways/driveway edges. He even edged the yard while he was there. Everything was left immaculately clean after he was done. I've decided to hire him for bi-weekly lawn maintenance as I was so thoroughly impressed with his timeliness, responsiveness, fair prices and high quality work.

I was impressed with the quality of work that Shaping and Restoring offered me. Anselmo trimmed three of my rounded shape trees perfectly. He also worked on our oak tree, willow trees and planted some beautiful roses in my garden. I didn’t know Anselmo could also help me with my old sprinkles that didn’t work, he replaced my old irrigation system including an old sprinkler timer that I did not know how to use. I was beyond satisfied with the quality of work and great customer service I was provided with. I highly recommend Shaping and restoring.

I am very happy with Mountain View Tree Service. I just had a dead Pine tree removed by them. They were very responsive, efficient, punctual, and have done a great job in removing the tree and cleaning up afterward. They left the place clean as if there wasn't a tree there. They are definitely my go-to place for any of my future tree maintenance. They also charge very reasonably.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
