Geoff Quares has been training my family for the past several months and I couldn't be happier with the results. When someone asks me which gym I go to train BJJ, they never expect to hear Battle Control. This gym is located off Piercy Road in the backside of Silver Creek Valley Road in a small business park next to Stryker. It's a little hard to find this gem at first, but once you find it, there's tons of parking. When I first stepped into Battle Control, I was expecting to hear a gym full of people snapping kicks and throwing punches at bags and the timer chiming in the corner. But I was very wrong. This gym is more like the living room of your home during a family party. There's people of all ages in here doing a variety of things but geared towards martial arts. You got the kids' class going on in one corner, a group of young men and women dissecting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques in another, and Dina Lara taking care of clients by the front desk. The vibe here is not like your typical gym where people go in and out and get their time in on the mats. It's more like a home full of family and friends. I go to Battle Control 2-3 times out of the week to train BJJ, and it's been the best decision I've made. I'm now 8 months into this art and I wouldn't give it up depsite moving away for college. Shoutout to Sir (which is Greg Lara) for being a coo instructor. If you have the opportunity, challenge yourself to roll with him. Or challenge him to a dance battle. Either way it will be a rewarding experience. Battle Control is many more things to offer other than BJJ classes and a great workout. The reason why I always come here is because Battle Control is a place where I can practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, meet and hangout with awesome friends and training partners, and be apart of a supportive family. We often mention at the end of each class that we all help and support each other as iron sharpens iron. This vibe from Battle Control is what I love, and I hope you find it here, too. Synergy Self Defense is absolutely fantastic. Shermie is very knowledgable and meets you at "your level" so you never feel behind. I noticed within a couple months that she taught me sooooo much. I wish I still lived in San Francisco so that I could continue to go. If you are lucky enough to try it you will enjoy it!
I have trained jiu jitsu, as well as done fitness training there. It is a great place to get personalized instruction and training. People who feel uncomfortable in a large gym atmosphere will feel perfectly comfortable there.
I've been training/working out with Tom for almost 6months now. Training with Tom is great, his knowledge of different workouts and exercises helped me grow as an athlete. His pricing is fair and a better rate than most trainers in the area. The workouts are always different and help me hit the goals or skills I want to improve on such as, improvements in my boxing/kickboxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, mobility and also strength training. When I first started working with Tom I was completely new to lifting but now I am able to lift 1.5% of my body weight in both my squat and deadlift. His ability to adapt to my needs whether minor injuries or muscle soreness is fantastic. Tom puts his clients as a priority and has never been late to any of our training sessions; he's been more than flexible to work with my frantic schedule weather it's training early in the morning, afternoon, or late at night.
The techniques taught are simple and very effective. When I am not flexible to do some of the warm up's, no one laughs at me except myself! You constantly continue to work with me when I cannot do something with great patience! Thank You for your dedication to your students.
This is a Fairtex Muaythai's new location. Great staff, clean facility, and awesome programming. I like their variety of classes you can take. They have awesome kids After School Program that includes science, technology, engineering, math, arts & crafts, nerf games and more. My little girl is in the program. She loves it. She loves Taekwondo taught by Jason and Muaythai taught by Charles. Master Anthony is the After School teacher teaching kids cool engineering projects and more. I love it because I can train at the same place and go home together after our class. I highly recommend this gym! Oh, by the way, the gym is SUPER CLEAN! They have a professional cleaner that comes and clean the gym. It helps that the facility is brand spanking NEW!
