Introduction: I have over 12 years of experience managing and operating my own handyman/construction business. During that time, I have helped build many houses and buildings from the ground up and have remodeled both commercial and residential properties. I have worked on everything, from small rooms to million-dollar properties. I have worked independently and on crews and have supervised crews as well. As a result, I have a thorough working knowledge of equipment assembly, start-to-finish framing and finish carpentry, repair/installation of sheetrock, wooden deck and boardwalk construction, interior/exterior painting, repair of electrical systems, all types of concrete/masonry work, interior/exterior plumbing, residential and commercial landscaping installations and irrigation systems, and grounds and exterior structure maintenance. I am able to interpret instructions and specifications such as details presented in blueprints. I have listed below some detailed information on my skills, by category. This will make it easier to review and summarize. I offer the following: * Sheetrock I cut, install, and repair sheetrock for new build-out construction, rooms, door, fascias, and windows framing and finishing, and closet installations. I am able to accurately measure/mark sheetrock cutting lines using rulers, pencils, tape, chalk, and marking gauges. I am diligent to clean and prepare sheetrock and building surfaces for applications of plaster, drywall taping, paint, masonry, decorative paneling, various finishes, wallpaper, or adhesives. I can install hardy back to walls and floors as needed for structural stability/protection against moisture damage/mold growth. I can install proper materials for shock and sound absorption. I am able to perform building weatherization tasks such as installing various types of insulation in walls and attics, applying weather-stripping materials, and caulking leaks. * Painting I have expertise in the use of various interior/exterior paints for offices, private residences, commercial properties, and other types of structures. This includes the use of appropriate refinishing products, coating materials, primers, epoxy, finish coats, preservatives, sealants, and shellacs. I use the appropriate brushes/rollers for various types of primers. I always perform proper surface preparation techniques such as accurate taping techniques, cleaning, scraping, sanding, and repairing holes with putty, caulking surface cracks, joints, and gaps. I ensure proper cleaning of brushes, buckets, and proper paint storage. I carefully mix paint, ingredients, and chemicals according to manufacturer’s specifications. I use brushes, rollers, and spray guns. I properly dispose of hazardous wastes as required by state and federal laws. * Electrical I can install new electrical wiring and fixtures in new construction. I troubleshoot/repair existing wiring, install 110/220 outlets, replace breakers and breaker boxes, replace worn switches and fixtures, water heaters, heat pump and central air thermostats. I install wiring for light fixtures, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, and alarm systems. I install/replace all types of light bulbs, ballasts, and lighting fixtures. * Plumbing I can repair a variety of indoor and outdoor plumbing and drainage systems for private residences. I can repair/replace and plumb-in sinks, shower stalls, bathtubs, and toilets. I repair/replace faucets, pea traps, plumbing fixtures, and drinking fountains. I can plumb-in all types of appliances including water heaters, sinks, dishwashers, refrigerators, washers and dryers. I can assemble and install pipe sections, fittings, and plumbing fixtures. I can repair/replace both interior and exterior sewer pipes, storm drainpipes, and natural gas lines. I can install, repair and maintain all types of irrigation systems on large residential properties and acreage. I install hard and flex pipe, and application of timed and/or un-timed drip and/or sprinkler systems. I install, maintain, and replace sprinkler heads, valves, and back-flow valves. * Flooring I have installed all types of indoor residential/commercial flooring including hardwood, parquet, stone, brick, colored concrete, ceramic tile, and linoleum installing their respective subfloors. I install hardy back underlayment, if needed, to prevent mold and water damage to floor and walls. I grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring using abrasive hand and power tools or machines. * Masonry Concrete/masonry work includes installing floors, steps, walkways, sidewalks, stairways, curbs, driveways, walls, and fences using various materials such as stone, marble, granite, brick, block, ceramic tile, and concrete. I was specifically hired to build a 4-mile wall that was 5’ high and made from center block and rock fascia for a large estate in southern Colorado. I experienced using all types of concrete, mortar, asphalt materials, sand, Portland, aggregate, and base rock and using their respective mixing compounds. I am accurate when mixing cement, sand, and water to produce concrete, grout, or slurry using portable cement mixers and/or tools such as hoes, trowels, tampers, scrapers to mix, pour, and spread concrete. Then, I will smooth and finish freshly poured cement/concrete using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools. I can operate jackhammers or drills to break up concrete or pavement. I have routinely used abrasive tools/machines to grind, scrape, sand, and polish surfaces of concrete, marble, terrazzo, stone, or wood flooring/structures. I can prepare and mold expansion joints/edges using straightedge and jointers. I install mortar guides to ensure joints of uniform thickness. I carefully mix/dilute muriatic acid to clean surfaces such as finished concrete walls and outdoor pavements and to remove excess mortar. I like to create decorative textures in finish coats using brushes/trowels, stones/ rocks/pebbles, and sand. I have installed interior/exterior fireplace and chimney layouts for many homes in Scottsdale, AZ. This type of construction requires using high heat firebrick applications. I can also construct decorative, non-structural fascia applications. * Fencing I have installed and repaired all types of fencing such as split rail, post and cable, chain link, plank, double-sided, high-end, barbwire, and steel-post fences. I can use pole diggers, concrete and/or wood poles, and various types of fencing materials such as wire, wood, slats. I can dig long and deep trenches, berms, and appropriate drainage systems for residential and commercial properties. * Parks, Trails, and Grounds While working in Muir Woods/Stinson Beach National Parks, I was responsible for clearing brush, limbs, and trees to standard along trails and restoring and re-vegetating old trails using erosion control, aeration, re-contouring, and native plantings. I cut down large trees, cut logs and wood utilizing chainsaws, gas-powered log splitters, brush cutters, pulaskis, mcleods, sledgehammers, and rock drills. I can build, repair, and maintain wood and stone box step and stringer staircases, water bars, retainer bars, rock steps, single/multi-course retaining walls, turnpikes, trail drainage structures, and rock and log drainage structures. I built small foot bridges and installed stepping stones for crossing creeks and gullies. I built trail tread riprap/stone pitching. I maintained trail surface by adding, grading, and compacting surface material such as gravel and dirt. I dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using power packers, picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes. I designed reroutes or new trails with proper drainage techniques such as installing drain pipes, water diversion bars, and cribbing to direct flow of water away from trails. I built rock and log drainage structures and dried laid rock walls. I evaluated the environmental factors involved such as wildlife habitat, scenic values, wetlands, and wilderness ethics. I built wooden trail structures like retaining walls, boardwalks, fences, bridges, turnpikes, staircases, and handrails. I repaired and replaced park, trail, and parking signs by setting posts by using augers, and bolting signs to posts and structures. I repaired wooden benches and picnic tables by replacing wooden planks, sanding, and cleaning them by power washing. * Landscaping I installed and maintained the large acreage grounds for huge estates in Sedona and Scottsdale, AZ. I do installation of xeriscape landscapes using native soils, stones, gravel and other landscaping materials to save on water and irrigation usage. I used all types of hand and power landscape equipment such as power trimmers, lopping shears, pruning saws, leaf blowers, string trimmers, and riding mowers with attachments. I installed water features such as koi ponds, stone waterfalls, and small water streams with stepping stones and small footbridges. I built castings for concrete furniture such as landscape benches. * Kitchen/Bathrooms I have built and installed many new kitchens and bathrooms in private residences. I have installed travertine stone shower stalls. I have installed and repaired all types of bathroom/kitchen cabinets, closets, doors, kitchen islands, and other wooden fixtures. I am diligent to use proper application of surface materials such as wood preservatives/sealants, oils, and special paints for woodwork and wallboard using proper preparation, brushes, and materials. * Roofing I have installed many types of roofs including tile, ceramic, concrete, and those with electrometric applications. I am responsible for ordering roofing materials, crew supervision, quality control, and adherence to building codes. This has required exact material requirement measurements and calculations, roof deck material preparation and installations, applications of waterproof materials, insulation installation, and installing exterior building roof gutters with proper downspouts. I set up and tear down various types of scaffolding. * Exterior Walls/Stucco I have applied stucco to many homes’ exteriors with subsequent paint applications. I install guide wires on exterior surfaces of buildings to indicate thickness of plaster or stucco and nail reinforcing wire mesh, lath, to the outside surface to hold stucco in place. While repairing exterior walls, I have tended machines that pump concrete, grout, cement, sand, plaster, or stucco through spray guns for application to walls. I also experienced applying weatherproof, decorative coverings to exterior surfaces of buildings. I have installed various types of insulation materials in floors, walls, attics, and exterior walls using prefabricated insulation materials. * Ventilation I can install and repair residential ventilation systems. This requires changing filters, installing and cleaning ducts, floor/ceiling registers, and roof stove pipes. I do installation of stove exhausts fans/vents and exhaust hoods. I am installing electrical thermostats for heat pumps and central air, clean/maintain all exhaust vents and drainage tubes, and change filters. I have performed routine maintenance on boilers, such as replacing burners or hoses, installing replacement parts, or reinforcing structural weaknesses to ensure optimal boiler efficiency. I maintained correct pressures for boilers heating fluids. * Boats Many summers, I have repaired and maintained yacht racers for clients who keep their boats in Sausalito, CA. I refinished both the well-known yacht racers, the Wasabi and the Atlanta located at both the Sausalito and South San Francisco Yacht Clubs. I crewed racing boats to Los Angeles for delivery. I performed boat motor tune-ups, changing oils, lubricants in gears, shafts, and bearings, repaired/replaced bilge pumps and impellers, replaced filters and belts, and repaired all electrical and plumbing problems. I conducted extensive refinishing of the interiors/exteriors, cleaning and polishing bright work such as brass or other metal parts, sanding, detailed painting and applying of varnishes and stains to high-end woodwork and decks, laminating plastics, reforming and repairing fiberglass, cleaning and repairing boat hulls, chipping rust spots on decks and sides of boats using wire brushes and air-chipping machines. * Tools I have routinely used and maintained all types of tools, ranging from common hand and power tools, for activities such as measuring, cutting, digging, nailing bolting, mortising, and gluing, to precision measuring instruments and electronic-testing devices. I can safely operate and maintain all types of power tools such as, but not limited to, chain saws, pole saws, table saws, beam saws, skill saws, jig saw, super saw, chop saws, receptacle saws, routers, planers, jointers, table sanders, floor sanders, impact wrench and drills, automated wheelbarrows, single and double-jack hammers, power-driven pumps, loppers, jack hammers, brick hammers, drill presses, wood and steel lathes, table grinders, gas-powered and electric drills, skid loaders, power washers, wet and dry shop vacs, power hedge trimmers, gas blowers, leaf blowers, riding and push mowers, vacuum cleaner, weed eaters, and volt and amp meters. I can safely operate and maintain all hand tools such as, but not limited to, measuring tapes, hammers, sockets sets, screwdrivers, levels, carpenter squares, hand saws, grip hoists and accessories, vice grips, pressure gauges, plumb bobs, straightedges, weed whips, chisels, chalk lines, mallets, knives, grips, pliers, pulaskis, lopping shears, pick-mattocks, wheelbarrows, staple guns, shears, shovels, picks, pruners, post hole digger, sledge hammer, nail sets, rakes, brooms and dust pans. I am using all types of hand and power tools for activities such as measuring, cutting, digging, nailing, bolting, mortising, and gluing. I have used all types of extension ladders and have set up and torn down all types of scaffolding. * Recreation Manager Experience I worked several summers as the recreation manager at the Oak Creek Ranch Boarding School in Sedona, AZ. During that time, I organized all types of activities, outings, and camping trips for the youth groups. These included snow skiing and camping trips, horseback riding, physical education challenges, and hiking and camping activities. I was responsible for providing all the logistical support and safety training and procedures for all these activities.
