Whether you’re just starting piano, feel stuck in your playing, or are looking to refine more advanced skills, lessons are designed to help you build a strong foundation with clarity and direction.
Lessons are structured based on your starting point — building technical control where needed, and developing musical understanding alongside it — so your playing becomes stable, coordinated, and expressive over time.
Students of all ages are welcome, especially adult beginners and returning students. Lessons are paced according to your level so you can build a solid foundation clearly and steadily.
For younger students, the early stages are especially important — building the right foundation from the beginning helps prevent habits that can limit progress and make it difficult to advance to higher levels.
The learning process is kept engaging and enjoyable, so you stay motivated while making real progress.
A common issue I see is that students learn to identify notes on the keyboard, but without a clear understanding of rhythm or how timing works — including note and rest lengths, and how notes fit together in time.
As a result, playing often becomes a sequence of correct keys without clear timing or structure, and even familiar pieces may not sound recognizable.
Without a clear sense of timing, it is not possible to develop phrasing, expression, or any sense of flow in the music.
In lessons, these fundamentals are built step by step so your playing becomes coordinated, structured, and musically clear.
I’m a professional pianist, composer, and teacher based in Orange County, with a B.A. in Piano Performance from Berklee College of Music, and a focus on building strong musical foundations that translate into clear, confident playing.
I work with students across levels — from beginners building a solid technical base to advanced players refining control, musicality, and interpretation.
My teaching is rooted in strong classical technique, but designed to translate into confident, expressive playing across styles — including classical, jazz, pop, and film/game music — not just reading notes, but understanding how music works across different genres.
Lessons focus on:
– Technique, tone, and control
– Reading music and understanding chord charts
– Rhythm, timing, and coordination
– Ear training and playing by ear
– Musical phrasing and expression
– Modern harmony, reharmonization, and accompaniment skills
– Creating your own versions of songs, so you’re not dependent on written scores and can play music more freely
This is a good fit for students who:
– want structured progress focused on quality of playing, not just going through more pieces or method books
– are open to practicing consistently and building progress over time
– want to move beyond just “getting through pieces”
