Jared responded quickly to my inquiry with a firm quote and showed up the next day to do the project. I wanted a mini bar turned into a kitchenette. He and two guys installed a wall mounted microwave, a cabinet above it, an electric cooktop, a larger sink, and a garbage disposal. They had to cut into Cesarstone for the sink and cooktop, which made me very nervous. They even added more backsplash where it was missing once the old cabinet was removed and added touch-up paint to finish the job. They did everything in one day and left the space cleaner than when they arrived. Very pleased.

Tim is a true artist. His work is beautiful and we are extremely happy with our "one of a kind" piece. We commissioned a Bar Cabinet and we had a specific design in mind. He worked with my husband and I to give us what we wanted in terms of design and he enhanced the piece with his ideas and craftsmanship. He kept us updated and was very responsive to our queries. The project took longer than I expected but my husband kept telling me "it's an artist's process". In the end we have a gorgeous new piece of .... Art.

I needed a cabinet/bookcase extended by around six feet. The job was complex, because the existing piece was detailed and well crafted, and the extension had to match perfectly for it to look right. James Khatab from Prosource Builders was professional and confident from the beginning. He came and made measurements, then produced a detailed drawing of his building plans. Then he and Ignacio came over and executed the plans beautifully. His craftsmanship and professionalism exceeded my expectations - the extension is literally flawless - even the paint! Clearly, James has a commitment to perfection. He's tireless, professional, and a great communicator. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

My install included installing a free standing wall cabinet to house components. Gary gave advice about the design. During the actual installation process of the wall cabinet and how/where the wires would be hidden - Gary checked to make sure I was satisfied. Call him - he is great!

Isaac did a great job! I had a small, but tricky job: update an existing IKEA kitchen by replacing door and covers, and then build a new row of cabinets. Isaac first built the cabinets, which took no time at all, and then set about updating the existing stuff. He discovered that the old stuff wasn't installed well, so he fixed problems as he found them (a wall cabinet not being level, a base cabinet not attached properly, etc.) at no extra cost and seemingly without taking any more time. Isaac had a great attitude, worked hard, paid attention to my concerns, nailed the details, and really knows his stuff. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anybody who needs an IKEA kitchen install.

I was fortunate to have hired aDroit for my IKEA Furniture Assembly project. He was hired to put together a new piece from IKEA, a rather difficult display cabinet. ADroit was proficient, efficient and a perfectionist.. Just the way I like it!! He followed the assembly instructions perfectly. The result was a perfectly put together piece. Nothing was amis. All the parts fit together perfectly and my display cabinet is just perfect! Adroit was easy to deal with, well spoken, intelligent and very helpful. Not to mention tolerant and patient. He moved the piece twice to accommodate me when I was not sure where I wanted it to be.

Ronald is an absolutely thorough and experienced professional. We did the entire kitchen including new cabinets, a new layout and countertop which involved moving gas/water/electric connections. As you can imagine no plan can accurately gauge the extent of work unless you get under there and find connection. Ron was very professional and open about all the work being done and a few surprises that came along. We are thankful that we found Ron who not just handled all issues reasonably possible and also completed our work to our satisfaction. Not just that he ensured that we were happy with the work and paid attention to all our little requests all along. Extremely pleased couple!!

Chinyere has designed an office space and my living room. She has been my go-to design professional for the past ten years. Moreover, Chinyere has taught me how to shop on my own and ways to coordinate patterns, textures, and designs. One of the things I like best about her is that she finds high quality merchandise at reasonable prices. The furniture that I chose for my first office space in 2005 is still in good condition. In fact, I'm typing from the desk she recommended I purchase from Blue Print Furniture in Los Angeles ten years ago!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

      How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
