FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I interview the student using strategic questioning to assess strengths and challenges in the content area and to find out the desired goals and outcomes from the sessions.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Comparative Literature (major language area: English; minor language area: Spanish) and a minor in Philosophy. Additionally, I have a Texas Alternative Teaching Certification in the subject area of Math grades 8-12. Furthermore, I have taught English, Spanish, and Science in charter schools and private schools to all levels of proficiency. I also have experience with students who have learning challenges and students who are learning English as their second language. - How did you get started doing this type of work?
In high school, the principal noticed how my peers would come to me for help with their schoolwork and consequently pulled me into his office one day to ask me if I would be willing to formally tutor struggling students during my free periods. I accepted the opportunity and have been tutoring struggling middle school, high school, and college students ever since. I have a passion for helping people realize their own potential and I truly believe that every individual is capable of learning any content as long as it is presented and explained in a way that is comprehensible to him or her.
