I planned a surprise engagement for my gf and hired joe last minute. I read his reviews and his package pricing was absolutely unbeatable. Unfortunately we had a last minute change of venue due to weather. Joe was able to change venues and plans without skipping a beat. Because it was a surprise he was excellent about staying below the radar and she never had a clue. He was on time, friendly, dressed appropriately, and absolutely amazing. We are waiting on our final video and pictures which I'm sure is going to turn out amazing! I would hire joe again without a second thought. We will most likely use joe for our wedding too! I honestly couldn't have asked for any better.

Jami was excited about our project from the beginning and went the extra mile all the way to the end! I was Over The Moon with the results! Not only did she capture the event, she captured the feel of the Roaring 20's right down to the detail of the film style of the day, in our video. We chose to have video and stills and the results were stunning! I can't think of one thing that she missed. Truly amazing and will now be a huge part of my annual party.

Mark video taped our wedding for us, and he did an incredible job! The video came out beautiful! He managed to capture all of the important and fun moments of every aspect of our ceremony and reception without even being noticed. I don't know how he did it, but I'm so glad we hired him. I can hardly wait until we know someone who can benefit from his professionalism and expertise!

Working with Rand has been great! He really elevated the level of quality of our annual event video, from the video quality to the editing and final product. He was extremely easy and professional to work with in this whole process, which made my job easier particularly the day of the event. I would highly recommend Rand for your business video project.

Steve Grossman videographed our daughter's reception. He did an excellent job. He came early, took the trouble to identify all the family members and patiently video taped all parts of the reception hall and decorations. The video included all his handywork and was excellent. we were very happy with the final DVDs. He was very easy to work with and we would recommend Steve to any one who would like to their memories photographed. Thank you Steve for your wonderful work and for your friendly attitude. - MA

JOB: Videography of Large Live Multi-Artist Concert Event (incl Pre-Show / Concert / Post-Show). As a first time client of Chris O/Attis Videography Services, I couldn't have been more pleased from introductory contact to receiving the completed raw video footage (Attis creative editing to follow). An entertainment professional and concert event producer myself, all the essential qualities I know that identify 'top notch, top quality' professionalism and services, Chris O/Attis possesses - excellent customer service, continuous communication and follow-thru throughout the entire process (pre-event prod/planning/prep to event completion), very caring / conscientious / courteous / ez personality to work with, very thorough and anticipatory attention to detail w/ every aspect of the event (left nothing to question), always punctual (or even slightly ahead). Mark is amazing! He was our wedding videographer and we could not have been more pleased. He is extremely professional and responsiveness, and so great to work with. The wedding video came out perfect. We provided zero direction and he captured all the details and took us right back to all the incredible feelings of the day. Erica and Laura filmed our live band performance in front of an unexpectedly big crowd of over a thousand. They were able to capture both the band and audience and hooked into the sound equipment to get a professional sound to the audio. We were thrilled with the video footage and very happy with their reasonable fees. They were a pleasure to work with!

Great working with Mike at Studio M. We had an extra challenge as I had to manage the project remotely but he took care of everything as my point person for the shoots. Rate was very affordable and provided a nonprofit discount. Quality of photos and video were excellent with little artistic direction from me. Very easy to work with editing videos in two languages. Looking forward to working together again.

Scott and his crew did an amazing job for our wedding which was both audio and lighting heavy. Not only was he always quick to respond to my emails, but always willing to offer advice in helping me develop the look I was going for. Due to the nature of the venue, the set and strike needed to be done very quickly and they nailed it. Highly recommend!!

My wife and I just got married 9/8/17 and could not be happier with our wedding video. Meena (Sohi Productions) captured every special moment of our day. I barely even knew she was there. Let me say that she was there from start to end and for my wife and I we thought the day just flew by. At the end I was just getting ready to party and it was over that's what happens when you are the ones getting married but the video she produced let's me live the best day of our lives over and over. I could honestly say this video could not have been made better it is just perfect!!! It is so worth it to get Meena to capture anyone's special day weather it's a wedding, b day, you name it she will take care of you 100%. She is fun, energetic, creative, and just very talented. She absalutely has a passion for it for sure. I would hire Meena again and plan to in future events. If you are thinking money, or negotiating with yourself on if it's worth it let me tell you YES it is. I have watched out video like 200 times seriously and I get lost in my wife and I love story. The way she captured us looking at eachother in moments I didn't even know she was filming, to see the love I have for my wife and to see the video is just a reminder on the best decision I've ever made. Thank you Meena you are not only someone we met for business but you are apart of our love story and now can call you a friend. You did an amazing job and we couldn't be happier. You are a professional at heart.!! If you want to see how amazing her video was check out our wedding on YouTube (Andino wedding). Be prepared to be blown away... 100% referring Sohi Productions.

I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about Just Love Films. From their positive attitude and professionalism to their stunning talent, I could not have chosen a more wonderful videographer. Our wedding day was stressful from the start, but as soon as Just Love Films got there and started filming video I felt like things were falling into place. I was already assured of Just Love Films considerable talent after seeing videos on their website, which I loved! But when I got the highlights video I was brought to tears. They managed to capture not only the best moments, but the spirit and energy of the best day of my life! Thank you

I needed someone to help me with a project that included a combination of photography, video, and music...I was amazed by Jordans work - After reviewing some of it, his camera and video skills exceeded my expectations but it was when we met for our consultation that I realized how great a guy he really is and how comfortable I would be working with him! SO SO important!! Jordan is very professional, keeps up with communication whether it's through email or over the phone. He is actually fun and easy to work with also, not like many photographers I've come in contact with that were overly anal about their work. He collaborated with me, paid attention to my own ideas and took them into consideration as he made magic...My project came out amazing and I'd say Jordan is truly a master of his craft... Definitely would recommend him to anyone looking for video work, photography, etc!

My wedding was captured perfectly at every angle from beginning to end thanks to Kelby and his team! They were super accommodating throughout the entire process. We met in person to discuss our vision and to make sure all the important moments were captured in photos and on video, and once the wedding was over met again to to ensure we were completely satisfied with his work. (we opted for digital files on a drive). Kelby and his team are extremely professional and were willing to go the extra mile to get the prefect shot. It was 104 degrees on our wedding day and they stuck it out with us out side in the blistering heat at all of our desired photo op locations (even on the side of the road atop a hill overlooking the bay) to make sure our vision came to life. The best part was how Kelby seemed to know all of the perfect angles and poses to put us and the bridal party. The poses he came up with really told a story and captured and intimate moments. Nothing felt cliche and the pictures and poses were powerful and unique to us as a couple. It felt so natural and was very "us". Our pictures look like they came straight out of a magazine! When people see our pictures they are always so impressed with the quality and composition. I can't forget about the highlight video. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! https://youtu.be/W4Pk0BLAGDU This review is LONG overdue, but better late than never :) Thank you THANK YOU THANK YOU! You did an amazing job! I couldn't have picked a better photographer for my special day. Choose Kelby KO Productions, you won't regret it!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
