I appreciate his diligence and integrity! He installed new laundry room cabinets and worked on a minor cabinet door alignment issue until I was satisfied. Installed a new toilet, bathroom vanity light and a 16 lb. dining room flush-mount light. When I had a issue with the new toilet he corrected it immediately. He's now my go-to handyman and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a handyman!

He measured & hung 5 wall cabinets in laundry room, created a dryer vent through an outside wall, hooking it up to dryer, built a step from Gazebo floor to ground. All work was done very well. Used him before, for all kinds of jobs, in fixing up a house for sale. I find him a versatile & talented man.

Kurt suggested instead of just doing Cabinet refinishing in the kitchen to do the cabinets throughout the entire home since they were identical throughout and all could use the upgraded look.

Phillip was very polite, he did a good job installing an electrical outlet for my microwave and cutting the cabinets to size so the microwave would fit correctly. He kept it fairly clean as the job required sawing of wood. I'd recommend him and will most likely use him again.

I have lived in my house for 17 years, and the age of my house was clearly evidenced by my horrific tract-home kitchen. In looking to remodel, I contacted several contractors, and Josh promptly responded. I had several contractors over to my house to look at the space. Josh was the only one to actually HEAR what I was saying about the inefficiencies of my kitchen, and my ideas of creating more counter space. The other contractors simply wanted to “remove and replace” the cabinets and counter top that I had. Josh took careful time to assess the space, considered my thoughts, and provided his professional opinion. I agreed with him, and he said he would provide me with some drawings. I was stunned when I saw what my kitchen could look like. Of course, because he is a craftsman and not just a contractor installing pre-made cabinets, there was the issue of cost. Josh understood my concerns, the financial situation, and my budget and, again, provided a solution. (In hindsight, though, when looking at what I now have compared to what I might have had, the difference in bids was really apples to oranges.) I also want to mention that because the other contractors were going to use pre-made cabinets, I was told that I would have these “filler-type” areas (not sure of the correct term) where the space that did not perfectly fit with a pre-made cabinet would be un-utilized but covered. I can gleefully state that there is not an OUNCE of unused space in any of my cabinetry. Josh (and partner Mike) created special usable areas in my kitchen that make me smile every time I have to open them! Once the cabinets were built and ready for color, an issue arose with the availability of the individual Josh works with who specializes in this area. Not wanting to disappoint, Josh immediately engaged the services of another “finish” professional, and my cabinets got their finish, as promised. With respect to color, I did not want a “canned” type of color, and Josh told me to provide him with the color I wanted, and he would match it – I provided my color and it was matched! The installation by Josh and Mike was quick and professional; they even coordinated the installation around another contractor who was installing my granite counter, understanding that everyone had an objective and a timeframe. The whole experience was an absolute pleasure, and the result was beyond my expectation. The cabinets are the work of professional craftsmen, not contractors. The quality cannot be compared to pre-made cabinets. My daughter-in-law commented my kitchen “looks like something out of a magazine.” To me, that is the ultimate compliment! I would encourage anyone looking to remodel/upgrade their kitchen with pre-made cabinets to give Josh the opportunity to assess your situation; you will be pleasantly surprised! And please do not hestitate to contact Josh directly if you would like to personally see his work, as I would love to show you my kitchen! Next, the bathroom . . . :)

I could not be happier with JV Cabinets. My kitchen has been transformed from something dull and unsightly to a beautiful room. I was able to match the color of the doors perfectly to have the interior of the cabinets painted. Couldn't be happier with the job and surprisingly affordable. This job was to prepare my house for sale(and it sold!) but I will likely use JV Cabinets for the house I will buy, and I know I don't have to worry about the outcome. Trust me. Use JV. It was my lucky day finding Zeus online... The kitchen countertops set up by the previous owner were ugly and unstable in places, and I needed them redone before visitors arrived. I liked their portfolio, i just hoped their work stood up to it, and quick... Well it sure did! Jesse immediately sourced a great-looking, durable and surprisingly inexpensive replacement. The finish is modern and practical, and it really transforms the kitchen. I get so many compliments! Their attention to detail is commendable, especially given how darn fast these guys work. Jesse and his crew did this in a few hours, even carving a new custom handle treatment for the lower cabinet doors. When he offered to take on raising the stovetop hood next (previous owner was a midget!) I trusted him that they wouldn't still be wrestling with it days later when those guests were due. Again, so glad I did. They did it in a day, re-wiring and everything. No more bumping my head when I look into my cooking pots! Next up, they're building a little studio for me, to be cut into the hillside just below the house... With Jesse's clever design and materials, he's managing to keep this affordable without looking "budget"... I'm excited! I recommend Jesse for his style-conscious, resourceful, and unique remodeling approaches. He and his Zeus team do beautiful work, built to last.

Brian of Betlan Construction did an excellent job of updating our very dated 1970’s cabin. The entire interior of the cabin was gutted and replaced with new wallboard, plumbing, doors, cabinets, countertop, flooring and appliances. Although we had a minor problem with one of the sub-contractors, we were very pleased with Brian’s work. He always responded to our messages and questions and was very accommodating as we made changes to the original plan. The contract price for the job was very reasonable and he came in on budget . Although the project took longer than originally scheduled, we are very pleased with the final result and highly recommend Brian and his company for any project.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

    How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
