Important Caution Regarding This Contractor As a married man and father , I feel a strong responsibility to share our experience with this handyman , particularly for families where a woman may be managing the renovation project. While he initially presented himself as polite and professional, things quickly took a turn. He claimed to be a contractor from Ukraine and seemed competent at first. However, as we gave him more projects, his behavior became concerning and unprofessional—especially toward my wife, who was managing the job due to my busy work schedule. Despite my wife making it clear from the start that she is a mom and a married woman and not interested in verbal jokes, or comments he began acting inappropriately verbally . He made flirtatious comments and suggestive jokes, testing the water .. which she repeatedly shut down. His behavior escalated to the point that she had to firmly tell him he could either behave professionally or leave. Eventually, she told me everything, and while I wanted to confront him directly and , I respected her request not to escalate things since she handled everything herself. There were also financial red flags. On one occasion, my wife gave him $300 cash for a job he had quoted at $250. He claimed he didn’t have change and would Zelle the $50 difference later—he never did. As the work progressed, his prices kept increasing without justification, especially since he is not a licensed and insured contractor who follows legal requirements and pays taxes. He also pushed for reviews before completing the work. One of the most troubling patterns was how his pricing and behavior changed depending on who he was dealing with. When he interacted with my wife—who is attractive and clearly in charge—his conduct became noticeably more inappropriate and his quotes more inflated. He clearly has a tendency to cross boundaries when he thinks he can get away with it, as probably did in his backhome which he stated was Ukraine. To be fair, his craftsmanship was decent. But no quality of work justifies making someone feel uncomfortable or unsafe in their own home. I strongly advise against allowing this man to work around women alone. His behavior was unprofessional verbally , verbally inappropriate, and at times bordered on harassment. Also , Whenever we questioned his high pricing at the end , he became defensive, did a quick Google search which would show standard rates from reputable, licensed companies who are licensed contractors, bonded and insured, Yet he continued to charge premium prices without offering the accountability or professionalism or legal bonding that comes with a licensed operation.
