FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Absolutely and continuously from numerous sources including ebooks, online platforms, subscriptions eg, AppDev and Oracle's Java Magazine, etc. My colleagues do the same in their own ways. It's a must in this field. In addition, it's fun to add more to whatever you already have and to develop as well as test new, more efficient and sometimes easier software development solutions.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had friends in the field but I had always hesitated because of my ignorance and I had never been a Math and Engineering person but some of them encouraged me especially my mentor an experienced software engineer with Java and database technologies from India. After my research assuaged my doubts I took the plunge and I was blown away how it was not as difficult as I had expected. In fact sometimes it was quite easy: much easier than some of the nontechnical stuff I had done in grad school. The best part is unlike the stuff you learn in school, I could actually test my knowledge as soon as I wrote the code and see the results, that enhanced my confidence and kept me going.
