Kevin was responsive, communicative and clear. He arrived when he said he would. was knowledgeable about sprinkler and irrigation system mechanics and quickly grasped our specific layout. He worked quickly, needed very little direction and put a long-term plan in place for maintenance and optimization of the system. AND - he cleaned up after himself! We will be using Kevin for all of our irrigation needs moving forward

I am Dissapointed in the fact that he charge us a 75.00 "Estimate fee" for coming out to look at the project. He didn't tell my wife that in the original conversation but did convey to me that there would be a fee, but that it would then be applied to any work that was bid on, which I was ok with as I had 2 jobs for Michael 1 electrical, 1 Irrigation, which he bid on to do the work, the date was set a week and a half out as he was busy, but then he cancelled that date but never selected another one to re schedule, so I provided another date for him (Following week) and he couldn't make that one either and I was expecting a call or something to reschedule for a third time but have heard nothing. My biggest frustration is that he charged me an estimate fee just to bid on work, but then didn't come do the work, but took the 75.00 for telling me how much it would cost for the work requested... I'd be ok with that if I was the one to not accept his bid I'd pay for his time, but I did accept the bid and scheduled the work. I was expecting that the money would apply to the future work to be completed. Basically in my opinion he cancelled the jobs and kept the money.... I will now go find another source to complete this task... I require no more contact from his service

Just hired magnificent landscape to do my biweekly gardening. They did a great job on the first cleanup. So far every interaction with them has been very professional. They have great attention to detail. They asked whether I wanted my bushes natural or boxy, whether I needed to keep the trees tall for privacy...they asked about my irrigation system, what type of weedkiller I was comfortable with... I just loved how much detail they put into the job without any prompting from me! They have also been perfectly on time for the two times they have come so far.

I like to work with Valentin. He is a nice, friendly guy. At the beginning I didn’t know how to start my rebuild job. He gave me lots of advice and gave me time to think about it. No push. If I have any question, he always responded in time. I love my new lawn and new irrigation system.

I hired CRC Gardening to do a fairly large weeding project and tacked on a small irrigation system project. Moved into a new house and had weeds growing like crazy all over the property. Had Carlos and his team weed it all and install some ground cover. Then had him connect a drip system to an irrigation line and set it up in a few planter boxes. Carlos and his team did an amazing job - they were very detail oriented, came when they said they would, and left the rest of the property extremely clean. I can't recommend them highly enough. They will certainly be the first ones I call next time I need a project done.

Gustavo and his crew are outstanding in the quality of their work, their work ethic (reliability, promptness) and depth of experience. I had them do an electrical job for me (that had baffled 2 prior teams), a huge garden job including building planters and a compost bin for a new organic edible garden, irrigation, cover for the air conditioner unit, painting the backyard fence, misc odd jobs etc. I plan to hire them again for a large lighting job and other items on my to-do list. They deserve more than 5 stars!

Highly recommend!! Rene totally transfomed our yard, and put in 4 very long days to get it done. His team is extremely professional and respectful of our home, took their time and went above and beyond what we expected from a lawn care team. Installed new storm drainage, rebuilt part of our fence, and fixed a old irrigation system -- all on time and for a fair price. They even called us to let us know we'd overpayed (added up receipts incorrectly) and offered to drive over with a refund. We're very happy to have found this team!

Ricardo is a very nice person & great to work with. We had him & his crew replace our 2,200sqft lawn with new sod. Our lawn was taking over by gophers. He installed gopher barrier & replaced my old irrigation system. I gave Ricardo a number & kept it within my budget 👍🏼 Definitely recommend.

Working with Microresorts was a true pleasure. We were extremely lucky to find Elder through an old real estate agent and we couldn’t have been happier. Microresorts built 2 decks, concrete walls, a firepit, a fence with gates, and beautiful planters and also put in 2 irrigation systems, a drainage system, many plants, and a gas line to our firepit and grill. He also installed our hot tub including electrical. He also threw in some extra items that we didn’t expect which we needed to get done at some point. Before we even signed a contract, Elder drew up plans and showed us his fantastic ideas for our outdoor space. He put a lot of work into the plans and it was clear that his vision matched ours. His workers were considerate to our neighbors. Elder met all of our immediate neighbors and game them his contact info. He told our neighbors to call him if there were any issues. When the workers showed up at 9:30am on a Saturday, one of the neighbors complained (even though this was much later than the 8am that the local ordinance allows). Elder had the workers come even later on Saturday to accommodate our neighbor. The work was professionally done and looks amazing. Everyone who sees our space is astonished at the design and finishing work. Although the work took a little longer than the original estimate due to rain, it was completed as quickly as possible. It was well managed and there were no significant delays or problems. Elder dealt with us with respect even though we did change our minds on a couple of details after work started. He didn’t increase the price when we made changes even though we knew it would be a little more expensive for him (and we were willing to pay more). The hardscape is solid and we are not worried about maintenance anytime soon. We wanted a low maintenance house and he gave that to us. Overall, I can definitely say that we are extremely happy with Elder Jerez and Microresorts. We would definitely hire them again if we had any more work to do. Choosing Elder and Microresorts was an excellent decision and we recommend him highly.

The Perfect Landscaping Company was the right irrigation and landscaping company for my job. Enthusiastic and really care about the finished product, easy to communicate with, willing to listen to your ideas, and honest enough to tell you the truth about how they feel about a material or idea you may bring up. There was a tremendous amount of work to do on my project and the team worked very hard and left my home neat during the process. I worked with Bill on selecting the shrubs and was impressed with his ability to take something complex and pull it together fast and efficiently. A very talented person. We are still going to be working together for some final touches with the irrigation system. I have confidence in this company and hope to be with them for many more years to come. B.E. Smoot

John and his workers did an outstanding job. They built a three-tiered stone retaining wall, installed french drains and an area of crushed basalt, planted and added irrigation. They were timely and responsive - a pleasure to work with. John also did some trouble-shooting of my irrigation system that involved replacing a valve and installing a new soaker line.

Jeremy helped me install a drip irrigation system. Jeremy is very efficient with his time and gets right down to business. We were up and running in very little time. What’s even better is Jeremy taught me how the system works and how I can make modifications to it.

I needed ideas to improve my front side yard and Edward came out right away and gave me a very competitive bid to install irrigation to connect to my existing system and put in sod, as well as topping off the bark in all the planter beds in my entire yard. Even better, he was able to start the job very quickly and finished it on time. Edward was super responsive, answered all my questions in person and via text/phone, and even put in some flowering plants (not part of the original job) for just the cost of the bags of planting soil he picked up.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
