I have worked with Bob on various levels. First, Bob provided me with private guitar lessons for several years. Bob made the learning experience fun and enjoyable. I was able to learn and play the kind of music that I wanted to play. Bob is also very patience (staying with me for so many years is a true testament to this!). My youngest son Michael also took private guitar lessons from Bob. On a more professional level, Bob and his band performed at my oldest son's (Bobby) wedding receipion. It was a "blast" with all of the guests dancing and singing. I actually received a call years later from an attending guest asking for Bob's contact information for their wedding reception (obviously they had very fond memories of the event and Bob's music). If and when my 2 remaining kids get married, I can guaranty Bob will be going the music. He makes an event a real party!!!

Taylor created a very professional, radio ready song for me. He works extremely fast and knows how to construct modern music that sounds like he hired a full band. The mix was fantastic music and singer alike. I highly recommend Taylor for your project.

Ignition is one of the best classic rock bands around. I have hired them several times for different events and every single time guests rave about their music. Most importantly they get everyone on the dance floor! As an event planner, that spells success for a party or wedding! On time, professional, great music selection and just fun!

I have known Jennifer Deirmendjian for 12 years now and worked with her musically on solo projects off and on as well as performances in bands. She plays and writes violin beautifully. I have learned so much from her musicianship in rehearsals on a professional level more than anyone I have ever worked with. She is patient, kind and disciplined. I highly recommend her teaching experience as she has been my mentor and inspired me in so many ways!

A bit about myself, before I delve into praise for Chloe Pourmorady; I am a jazz musician and co-frontwoman of the LA band The B's and The Honey. We perform an eclectic melange of French, German and American Jazz, Soul and Rock music with a variety of performers trained at the Berklee College of Music and Loyola Marymount University. I first met Chloe while we were both students of classical music at Loyola Marymount, and was immediately impressed by her intensity and the joy with which she approaches her relationship to music. Since graduating, I have invited Chloe to perform with The B's and The Honey, as well as collaborated with her on several original songs, performed with her own musical collective, Melanchloé. Chloe Pourmorady creates musical ideas like most people walk with one foot in front of the other. Her upbringing as a child of Persian refugees has undoubtedly influenced her musical language, though her passion for expanding and deepening that vocabulary extends from her youthful experiments with electropunk songwriting, to her rigorous study of classical violin, to her exploration of Eastern European and Romani Folk music. Both as a teacher and a performer, Chloe is constantly pushing herself to communicate musical ideas with artful intention, and this detication makes her an asset to whatever endeavor she to which she chooses to lend her talents.

Taylor is an awesome guitar instructor. I started taking lessons 2 years ago, I had never taken any musical instrument lessons before. Now I have started playing in our church worship band and I absolutely love it. Taylor is a very encouraging instructor-always focusing on the positive but definitely has challenged me which has helped me grow as a guitar player. He does a great job of balancing my lessons with practical skills and also music theory. Taylor is very good at helping me set short and long term goals which keeps me motivated to practice. Taylor is also very mindful of our lesson time and always makes sure to teach to the last minute of our scheduled lesson(and then some). Taylor is clearly a talented musician and passionate about his craft-that passion comes through in his teaching, he teaches because he loves guitar and music and he wants others to love it too. I highly recommend him as a guitar instructor!

I've been involved with the LAPC for about 3 years, using it for production and most currently as a rehearsal space and attending the weekly open mic. James has flawlessly mixed albums for my previous band and has produced amazing music with my current project. As a rehearsal space, the sound and equipment are quality along with it being a unique aesthetic in itself, setting a creative and motivating vibe. The colorful lighting and tree-sized mural lining the hallway makes you want to play like you're in a music video. The open mics are a great place to share a fresh song, or meet new people and artists weekly. I can't speak highly enough about the abundance of love and talent that is at L.A. Producers Club! Highly recommend, if nothing else, coming by to hang out under the disco ball teepee and hear some comedy and jams on a Wednesday night!

The Angel City Big Band is fantastic. As President of the Canoga Park • West Hills Chamber of Commerce we have worked with them for two of our Gala's and they were enjoyable for dancing and just listening. Tim and his staff were very cooperative in establishing the mood and theme we desired. My wife and I were so impressed we hired the band for our daughter's wedding reception. I sincerely believe you cannot go wrong with Angel City Big Band. Mark Neudorff, President Canoga Park • West Hills Chamber of Commerce

      About

We're a high-energy multi-cover band that performs music, like classic rock to music that is current (i.e. Rolling Stones to Katy Perry). We have all of the sounds pertinent to making the band sound just like the album. We're a very pro band that carries their own PA, as well as backline gear, such as drum kit, amplifiers, and all instruments needed for such gigs. In addition, the band is very well-traveled, having played for the U.S. Armed Forces twice in both Kuwait/Iraq, as well as in Japan on 3 tours at military installations.

      About

With their debut album receiving notable acclaim, this acoustic quintet is already making waves as one of the few true crossover bluegrass bands. Recent main stage performances at the Northwest String Summit, Mateel Summer Arts Festival, and Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest have cemented Hot October as a SoCal favorite as they prepare for their 2018 tour.    While it might not be that uncommon for a bluegrass band to have all five musicians singing in harmony, what sets this group apart is the clear and apparent virtuosity of each individual working towards the greater composition. Lead vocals, traded by Paul Fuller (Banjo) and Jesse Olema (Fiddle), are supported by a masterful rhythm section. Craig Ferguson (Mandolin & Dobro),  Sasha Birrittella (Guitar), and David Tranchina (Upright Bass) work together seamlessly creating a deep rooted pocket while trading sweeping, flat-picked lines for David’s unmatched bowed solos. Yes, the groups collective improvisations are something to be marveled at, but what is most exciting is seeing where the new generation of bluegrass music is headed, and looking at what Hot October is bringing to the table, let's just say that it's a very exciting time to be a bluegrass fan.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
