Specific behaviors to address
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have a 'one step at a time' approach to issues with dog behavior. Owners can get overwhelmed dealing with their dog's issues and I don't wish to contribute to that. An in home assessment of a dog and their owners then a calm, step by step plan to amend behaviors is what I recommend. Practice exercises are given between sessions. After mastery of these practice skills, the next set of skills are added. Every owner and situation is different, of course, but doing a manageable bit at a time seems to work very well. I really enjoy when owners fall back in love with their dogs once their issues are being successfully managed! I hear 'it's like they are a different dog!' quite a bit.

Courtney is a life saver! Truly. We have a very intense doberman puppy who needed a lot more than our laid back training that we have successfully used with all our other dogs. Courtney helped us tap into our own leadership skills to create a really healthy dynamic with our dog. She felt safe in the "pack" we created in our home and learned so much. As did we! She went from pulling on lead to walking with us everywhere. It made such a difference to be able to take her with us and not worry. She was awesome. Because Courtney taught us how to be awesome with her! I would recommend Courtney to anyone looking to train their puppy in a way that keeps them safe, integrates them into your life and brings out the best in their dog

My 7-year-old shelter dog, Rocky, was terrified of EVERYTHING and therefore barked and howled consistently. He suffered from severe separation anxiety and jumped on us when excited and/or ready to go outside. After 1 Zen Den consultation and 1 training session, Rocky showed 100% improvement. I as the pack leader did what was required on my end, and my buddy Rocky responded accordingly. Zen Den's techniques are respectful to the dog, achievable for the owner, and the results are measurable. My husband and 9-year-old daughter are also compliant with our new techniques for our dog and the results are just amazing. We can't believe this is the same dog. Now that we've gotten the basics out of the way, we're looking forward to more Zen Den classes to help make Rocky the best pack-mate he can be. I love Zen Den!

Courtney is professional, patient and a great role model of what it means to be the leader. Her ability to explain and give the visual lesson is excellent. She excels at being able to sum up your personal needs to be your dogs best trainer. We are very happy.
Dog Training

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I recommend a consultation first. I get a chance to meet the client, discuss their dog and his behaviors, frustrations, goals, etc. I also get to meet the dog and assess their behavior and character. Doing this step first allows a thorough exploration of dog and owner. Then I can come up with a plan for training that meets their goals in manageable steps.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

My passion for dogs and good training started with one dog in a shelter many, many years ago. Boxer mix, 5 months old, horribly abused, neglected and completely shut down. I was with a friend, helping her choose a dog to adopt. I told her about this dog and was trying to make a decision. She looked me right in the eye and said quietly 'he needs your help' He grew into a confident, well behaved boy that I absolutely loved. It took a ton of patience, a few missteps, and many months but the reward was so worth it for both of us!
