Arnulfo is amazing. He was on time or early for both the estimate and the tree removal. He and his team were extremely careful, taking great pains to make sure there was no damage to our home while removing the tree and stump. During every step of the removal he checked with me make sure I approved of what he was doing. While removing the stump, he found some concrete that the tree had grown around, which he removed after carefully making sure it wasn't structural. He then found an old pipe which he removed, again after checking to make sure it wasn't still in use. The best review I can give him is to say I will absolutely use him again for other jobs. Great experience with his work.

Danny Lieder did two jobs for us: the first job was to clean the windows of the house of our daughter that had not been cleaned in a long time, and he did an excellent job. At the same time he also did some much needed handiwork, like repairing a lock and changing a toilet seat. The second job was to tidy up the garden, especially trim the bushes along the driveway. This too he did very professionally, and the place looks much better. What we also appreciated was his friendliness and his competence in many fields - a real allrounder! We certainly will call on him again. Our rating would be: excellent. Evelyn Shea

We hired Jose Silva to cut down some trees remove a lot of old bushes and lay new sod in the backyard where just dead crabgrass was growing (or dying). We were not only happy with his service, we were ecstatic over the work done. He was on time and finished a day early. He went above and beyond what we hired him for which was completely unexpected and we could not be happier with the result. The price was perfect, the workers were just great and we have now hired him as our gardener a couple of times a month. He will be doing the front of our house in the next moth or so and we can't wait to see the outcome. Hire Silva Landscaping. You will not be disappointed!!!!

Best quote I got. Work was done well. I was impressed how clean they left things - I am used to having to clean up after most tree trimmers I've used in the past (we had 4 big trees trimmed and one dead tree removed). Super responsive.

Jose is an accomplished gardener, landscaper and tree trimmer. He went to school to learn the trade, then took over his father's business. Jose has made our property beautiful when other landscapers had failed. His attention to detail and desire to make my property exceed my expectations is his normal way of doing business. He has trimmed a large avocado tree and replanted a hillside surrounding our house when other landscapers failed to find the right ground cover. I cannot say enough good things about Jose, and highly recommend him for any work around your property.

Alejandro and his crew came out and removed a huge pine tree hanging over 3 of my neighbors houses. Took them three days to complete the job. It was a monster, 2 of four guys that came out to bid didn't even want to bid the job. Alejandro was confident and got the job done clean and safe. Highly recommend golden oak tree service.

The job was incredibly difficult - at the top of a hill with no backside access, very large, old tree that was very dead and treacherous. Many people who came to bid refused to even consider doing the job, but Gregg knew he had the guys to do it. He offered me a payment plan over several months which was very helpful. They started work almost immediately and took the tree down - and trimmed two others - in four work days. The workers were all very kind and respectful and a pleasure to have around. All in all a great experience - minus having to cut down the tree in the first place!

These guys did a wonderful job and did everything to my complete satisfaction. They sculpted my Queen palms exactly as I wanted and also did a very good job cleaning up my Bronze Loquats. They were on time and left my yard and trees in perfect condition. I will certainly recommend them to all of my neighbors and will definitely use them again with all of my tree trimming needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

    • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
    • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
