He did the taping & texturing in our bathroom remodel. Overall, he did a pretty good job by showing up when he was expected, finished the job in 5 hours and besides leaving a few rough edges & a screw hole that were left by our old mirror the work around all of the new drywall looked great. We are pleased with his work and would recommend again.

I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with Jerry and his professionalism. I am not experienced in home repairs because this is all new to me as a first time owner so I was nervous that I would be taken advantage of when I had drywall damage from a leak. He gave me several options and explained in detail what he recommended. I did like everything he was saying but I always believe in getting a 2nd and 3rd opinion. I received 2 other quotes, one much higher (and unnecessary) and the other around the same amount as Jerry (but later found this company was uninsured and dishonest when asked to show proof). Jerry completed repair in timely manner and I have continued using him for 2 other repairs. He gives me advice on ways to cut cost without sacrificing quality. I will continue using him when I need help.

MARK IS MORE THAN A MERE HANDYMAN! He is an extraordinary craftsman! I hired Mark to reinstall a costly 30 x 40 recessed medicine cabinet, which had been haphazardly installed by a general contractor. He cut the drywall to raise the cabinet, because it had been installed to low, leaving little room for a faucet; built a wood frame for the cabinet, where one had not been built by the contractor; moved the plumbing lines; built a base for a new wall-mount faucet, before we had a counter-mount faucet; installed the medicine cabinet; made sure all was level; and closed the drywall whole. Mark then installed the rough plumbing for our shower, bathtub, and sink. Mark did a fantastic job! He is a gem! He has a GREAT personality, fantastic work ethic, very methodical, has an eye for detail, not afraid of a challenge, and is truly a master craftsman.

I have hired S & S Electric before this time it was for electrical and lighting in a bathroom remodel that my husband and I had done. Among all the other contractors that were on the job they stood out among them all as the most professional and cleanest contractors. Love my new lighting that they helped design! Very trustworthy and honest service! I would highly recommend their service!

I was very happy with CC'S Painting Services' work. Carlos responded to all my inquiries promptly. His price couldn't be beat, he finished the job when he said he would, and the quality of his work was good. I have a few more rooms to paint and will definitely ask him again for his services.

Al was incredibly responsive. He responded to my quote request w/in 15 minutes. He was flexible with my scheduling needs and accommodated a next day appointment for me. The repair work to the drywall was perfect. I couldn't even tell where he did the work once it was completed. And, he was so nice to actually go to the store and pick up another can of paint to color match since mine was old and not able to be used. To top it off, he went above the call of duty and contacted me when he heard that the carpet cleaners (who were there at the same time) were trying upsell my service by 4x the amount I was quoted. Amazing customer service. You should hire him.

We had Martin in to finish up our drywall voids/ repairs in a kitchen remodel from a slab leak. We are extremely happy with the way he worked with our schedule; taping, muding and texturing and taking his time in doing it right. The kitchen looks awesome and his work showed through. We would definitely recommend him to our friends and family. Thank You, Jim Hildebrant

Richard and his wife were awesome! They did a professional job for a fair price and were very friendly as well as communicative. Richard is an efficient electrician as he converted our one piece lighting in our bathroom over our sinks to two separate electrical connections for lighting individually over each sink. He made the job look easy in comparison to what other contractors said they would need to do to get the job done. A major plus is that they did the job making minimal cuts in the wall and also repaired those cuts with drywall and texturing making the wall look as it did before they touched it as well as covering up the old hole for electrical in the middle of the sinks. Other contractors wouldn’t do this without an EXTRA charge. Richard then checked out a ceiling fan that wasn’t working and he fixed it with ease and it wasn’t something simple like a loose wire. Needless to say, I’ll be sticking with Richard for any future work that I need done.

Florin did an excellent job installing the marble for a specialized walk in bath surround and fixing the drywall from the demolition of our previous bath/shower. Florin also worked well with our plumber to get the job done correctly. The marble looks beautiful, I recommend BCD Construction wholeheartedly to install anyone's marble or tile!

I contacted Ross for a rental home to check a leaky roof inside a bathroom facing the street and to check out electrical outlets that were not working. Ross is very professional, he showed up at the exact time he said he would, responded immediately to texts, answered my phone calls and my tenants said he was a nice guy. He was able to to fix the electrical outlets and found where the leak was in my roof the first day. Then came back, removed the rotting drywall and patched up the roof. I will definitely keep Ross's phone number for any work I need done.

I called Bill for repair of about 200 square feet of my roof: it started leaking on Mothers Day. We were desperate and called a half dozen places: he was the only guy to answer and to our surprise he came the same day to fix it. And his prices were cheap. Besides the convenience he provided, it was important to is that he is fully licensed, bonded and insured. Equally, he and his assistant Gordon perform all of the work- this way you know that you are going to get predictable results At the end of the roof project, we began to talk and I found out that he is a fully licensed contractor: we were waiting to renovate our front vanity bathroom and laundry: most contractors were very expensive and unpredictable because I had no idea who would do the worm. To my surprise, Gordon demoed the vanity, old tile and a connecting wall between the bathroom and laundry: They put in new drywall, new porcelain tile, re-routed electrical wires, put in a new 240v outlet and changed out the old copper tubes for the washer into new ones!!! The post is one winded but I really wanted to fully articulate our experience. Their fee was very competitive with the other rates we were quoted I fully recommend Bill and his assistant Gordon with the highest rating without reservations

We have had an absolutely outstanding experience with RCP Construction! The office staff is friendly, expedient and helpful. Robert's work is exceptional. He takes care to always make himself available if needed. He made it a point to inform us of any considerations, and he kept us up to date with valid recommendations. RCP staff and contracted persons are hardworking, respectful and responsible. They were careful with our belongings. Robert kept the transaction within budget, and work was completed in a timely manner. We will be choosing RCP construction again for our future projects. We wholeheartedly recommend this company without reservation (and we do not make such recommendations lightly). The diversity of experience afforded by RCP Construction (i.e.-electrical, drywall repair, carpentry, etc.) also facilitated and expedited a seamless project. A project without any headaches and hassles is a good project! :) Maureen and Gabriel Moctezuma

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
