Coach Steve goes out of his way to make sure the kids have fun while practicing golf! His easy going style allows my kids to feel confident and learn without feeling stressed! He has been coaching my 3 kids for several years now- I love that the rates are so reasonable and their golf skills continue to improve! I love that they can be comfortable on a golf course- I think that will be very helpful for them in the future! I highly recommend Coach Steve! The CJs Mom, Corona

I enjoyed how my instructor, Mr. Marquez, would be so patient in helping my friend and I learn the sport. He was dedicated, genuine, and fun. Some golf instructors try to give you information all at once, but Mr. Marquez helped us step by step and left us feeling comfortable and enthused about moving on to the next stage. My friend and I went from missing the ball completely to going to the driving range and hitting the ball in the 200s in one day. I would highly recommend him to everyone!!! Thanks Mr. Marquez!!

I am passionate about teaching golf and making sure that both learning and playing golf are fun. My gift is finding a the best method to improve your game quickly and in communicating that to you so you see results.

Hello! My name is Rosana Gomez Valdor. I am an organized, hard worker and dedicated person who loves playing golf. I am originally from Spain but moved to the United States seven years ago driven by my passion for golf. I have been playing golf since I was 11 years old. Throughout my golf career, I have won several individual tournaments at the state as well as national level. I also competed with the state team. While obtaining my bachelors, I was able to play for the University of Texas at El Paso on a golf scholarship. During that time, we made history by winning the conference tournament for the first time in school history. Individually, my average moved from 81 during my freshman year to 75 in my senior year. I got several top ten finishes during all four years I played for the team. After earning my bachelor's degree, I was offered another scholarship as the graduate assistant coach position by Jerry Pelletier, head coach of the woman's golf team. During that time, I was assigned different tasks including organizing off the course workouts, long and short game practices as well as course management. I also helped with the recruiting process and equipment management. While earning both of my degrees, I gave private golf lessons to adults and taught free golf lessons to children for a community service program called First Tee. It is always a pleasure to teach and help others to improve their game so that they can keep enjoying this amazing and challenging sport. Currently, I continue playing golf, and I am going to participate in the q-school for the LPGA Tour next summer. I am also working at Green River Golf Club as Marshall, Starter and as one of the instructors for a player development program for adults and children.

I don't start a timer at the beginning of a lesson. I'd rather know that you have a good understanding of the lesson. So if we go over the alloted time it's not a problem. I'm very patient and understanding of the learning process. I want you to enjoy the experience and have fun with it. After all its just a game.......

Unlike most teaching professionals in the golf industry, my goal is to get you better at golf in the first hour of instruction and provide you with the information to help you achieve your goals without me by your side. I'm down-to-earth and very passionate about the game which is supposed to be fun. Getting better equals more fun on and off of the course.

I am an independent golf instructor at Fairmount Park Golf Club (Riverside, CA). After years on the course side as head pro, Troon Golf, and award-winning properties, I decided to dedicate more time to teaching golf... and helping organizations put on high-quality, successful golf tournaments (Premiere Golf Solutions). I am also the head golf coach for St. Lucy's Priory High School in Glendora, CA. I teach a simple one piece swing of turning back & through, utilizing understandable samples and drills that the average golfer can relate to. Focal points in my instruction are balance and posture, then turning back and through with a solid base and momentum driving through the ball. Lessons rates are... $35 per 1/2 hour, or a six (6) - 1/2 hour lesson series for $175 (6 for cost of 5). I also provide "couples" lessons for $50 per 1/2 hour, $250 for a series of 6, and Group Clinics. Range balls are not included in the lesson fee. Playing lessons are $100 for a nine-hole (90-minute) lesson plus green fees. Lessons available by appointment only. For more information or to schedule a lesson today, please contact me directly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

  • Individual lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
  • Couples’ lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
  • Golf lesson package pricing:
    • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
    • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.
