I recently hired Star to replace the flat commercial roof for an apartment building in Oakland (6,500 sq ft). I had an excellent experience from start to finish, and Im glad to leave a glowing recommendation for this business.First, Gelber, the owner, was referred to me by another roofer who I deeply respect and trust. That personal recommendation was spot on, and it meant a lot to me.Second, Gelber is extremely experienced and knowledgeable. He has excellent attention to detail and he takes a lot pride in the craft of roofing. As a result, he makes very good recommendations.Third, Gelbers commitment to quality carries over to the skill of his crew. They did an absolutely great job that fully delivered on the goals of the project. Gelber doesnt skip steps. He does it right, and in some cases he went above and beyond the original scope of work.Fourth, his pricing was reasonable. You might not get a rock bottom price, but its usually a mistake to go with the low bid anyway. Instead, its important to find a contractor you can trust, who does great work at a fair price. And this is what youll get with Gelber.When we walked around to inspect the old roof, Gelber pointed out many construction details especially things that the previous roofing contractor had done incorrectly, along with what he would do differently to improve it.We also took time to discuss the proposals we had received from other roofing contractors. Many of their recommendations were simply wrong. Gelber did a very good job of explaining his own recommendations, in a way that was helpful and educational.A new roof is a big investment, of course. But there are so many things I can point to that made this a great experience. Gelber was definitely the best person for the job, and Im very happy with the obviously high quality of his work.

On a tight time frame, the Star crew removed the old tar and gravel roof from our house and replaced it with a new more efficient torch down roof. They were careful to protect the foam insulation that we had previously installed on our roof and in fact enhanced it as part of the replacement process. Their professionalism and care was obvious throughout, including returning on their own initiative one night to spread plastic over the scraped roof to protect the interior of the house from a belatedly predicted potential rain storm. In short, they were tremendous.

Star Waterproofing did a terrific job on waterproofing my two balcony decks in the Berkeley Hills. As accredited installers of the WestCoat waterproofing system, they clearly are experts at the multilayered process as the work progressed smoothly & quickly over just a few days. They even removed & reinstalled my patio doors in order to place metal drip pans underneath prior to installing the system. Although they were the highest bid of several suppliers, I appreciated the speed and professionalism in which they were able to tackle this job, and felt the quality & cleanliness of the work was well worth the cost. Also included is a 5-yr workmanship warranty. I highly recommend STAR WATERPROOFING & ROOFING for your next project!

I recently had the pleasure of working with the team at Star Waterproofing for a comprehensive project involving both roof replacement and house repainting. From start to finish, they were nothing short of fabulous.The project had two main phases: replacing the roof and repainting the house. The team efficiently removed the old roofing, repaired any damage, and waterproofed the entire structure.
