What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 15 years of professional lessons including a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance from San Diego State University.
I have also been teaching private lessons since 2006 and enjoy helping my students enhance their talent and improve their vocal skills and stage presence.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been singing my whole life. I have been very fortunate to have had wonderful teachers, myself. All my teachers challenged me in every lesson to keep growing as a singer. Once I finished school I realized that performing wasn't my only passion; I wanted to inspire singers to learn and grow like my teachers had done for me.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I teach students of all ages. I currently have students ranging from 12 years old to adults. Helping singers of all ages is fun and rewarding.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
It is important to meet with your potential teacher and make sure it is a good fit because a student needs to feel comfortable with their teacher to have success.
I personally start every potential student with a meeting. In this meeting I run the potential student through a mini lesson working on vocal exercises so I can assess the students ability. After I have the student sing we talk about what I hear, their vocal goals and I answer any questions they may have. It is a chance for the student to get a feel for my teaching style to ensure it is a good fit for the student as well as it is for myself.
