Tom is an awesome handyman and appliance expert, he came in on-time, started diagnostic test, figured it was washer motor was not able to move, opened up the washer, guess what, where do my socks were hiding, found many of them. Of course I threw it away. Machine is fixed now. While heading back he also fixed my other minor issue in garage without charging. Tom is awesome.

One of the first things Gleo told me was that he had a regular job and would be able to work on weekends. He did two jobs for me at a rental. One was installing a medicine cabinet and interior lock. He did not complete repair of drywall repair by the cabinet. The other job was installation of a security door. He installed the medicine cabinet, lock and security door in a good manner. He did not complete an addition to the bottom of the security door. He was pleasant, on time, cleaned up well, and cooperative but for the incomplete items. I wanted him to paint a bath in S.F. at another rental but, he did not give me an estimate (perhaps too far away). Manelis Properties

Andres was FANTASTIC! He responded to a small job we posted during a kitchen renovation for a complicated appliance install. I couldn't find anyone who could do it. He showed up ready to do whatever it took. He offered great input in helping us make decisions, always said it was no problem to make it happen, and got right to work. He had all the tools necessary to get the job done. He was clean and courteous. His wife worked with him and she was quiet and clean as well. We ended up giving him almost 3 days of work and he far exceeded the work we had previously done (he stained our wood counter tops). We will be hiring him for all our handyman/construction needs in the future. We highly recommend him.

I reached out to a few services for a washing machine repair quote and in my request, Alex was the only one who provided some info about an error I'm receiving. Alex replied with an explanation of a few options of what may be causing it and what it'll take to repair. He came out and provided an initial assessment and isolated the problem, provided me the part number and a few options on how we can source the part; either through him (he'll source it locally) or online; which I did. Once the part arrived, I contacted Ale and he came out on a Sunday evening to install the part. He didn't have to but was proactive and demonstrated a sense of urgency to ensuring my washer was fixed. Great service, very nice person and very knowledgeable; do not hesitate to contact Alex for your appliance repair needs.

My dishwasher was having "PF" (power failure) code for about 2-3 weeks, and I did nothing about it, hoping the problem will just go away on its own. Javier came to take a look at it, took apart the door. We were planning on ordering parts which may potentially take care of the problem. However, the problem stopped happening. I liked how Javier was not trying to upsell us with a lot of needless things but trying to keep our budget low. We paid for his service call and he gave a guarantee that if the problem ever comes back to just give him a call. I hope I'll never need to call him back, but feel good that he's someone who stands by his work ethics.

My Whirlpool Duet Dryer was failing to start running -- just a "beep" and "click" when I pushed the Start button, but the drum wouldn't turn. Poking around on YouTube and Google I figured out how to get the diagnostics codes out of the display. Showed "88" code and all LED lights lit up, which means that all looked good. I contacted 6 appliance repair shops through Yelp and gave them all the same info. Tim from IRBIS responded almost immediately and he and I did some more diagnostics over the phone. We thought it could either be the Thermal Fuse or the whole circuit board. He gave me a quote for either repair, in writing, shortly thereafter, and since the other 5 repair shops were not as responsive, I made an appointment to have it repaired the next day. Ryan showed up on-time and got to work. He had to take the entire machine apart to get to the Thermal Fuse. He tested it with the multimeter and it, indeed, was bad. He replaced the part with one that was working (which we also tested) and put the whole machine back together. But when we started it up, there was a different problem. The diagnostics codes now said "6E". Ryan took it apart again and took a close look at the door switch, which appeared to be broken as well. He was able to fix it by hand and put everything back together. In the end, Ryan spent a lot of time with me and fixing the dryer. He charged me exactly what Tim had quoted. The work includes a 6-month warranty and I feel confident that these guys will make it right if anything does go wrong. Good, quality service. Thanks to Ryan and Tim for the professional work!

I highly recommend Fredy for any of your handyman needs. I hired him for a small drywall project but i could see he had many skills so I had him to numerous projects: wood floor sanding and staining, crown moulding and baseboard install, framing, wallpaper, plumbing, welding, tile repair, painting, furniture building, building a fence, and finish carpentry. I am probably missing some things! I worked with numerous other tradesman before I found Fredy on Thumbtack, and I found the quality and reliability of others slipped over time, but not Fredy! He continued to maintain a high level of customer service throughout the numerous projects. He always asks if I'm happy, and replies by saying "I'm not happy if you're not happy!" And I could tell he meant it. I also found his level of ethics to be very high and his pricing very fair. He is an upbeat personality which is also a pleasure to work with. I will continue to use Fredy for all my handyman needs in my home and business.

We always answer our phone during business hours with someone who is both understanding and knowledgeable. We will be able to schedule you and be able to answer a lot of your questions when you call. You will never get either an answering service or voicemail. Another thing we at American Pool and Spa understand is taking the time to check out the system thoroughly. We see it all the time: technicians come in, they are in a hurry, they want to get the job done quickly, so that they can get to the next job. They don't take the time to be proactive. The immediate problem may be taken care of (hopefully), but the actual cause of the problem is overlooked -- a small crack somewhere, a small leak, or a corroded electrical connection that will cause a bigger problem later. Maybe you are planning a swim party for your kids, or maybe you have a small gathering of your best friends to take a soak in your spa after a nice dinner only to not be able to use it. We take the time to be proactive. We will also take the time to explain to you what was needed and why, and answer any questions you may have. We also stand behind our work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
