FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
1. For ESL, I provide a set of related booklets electronically, beginning with my ESL Guide. They are yours at no cost, even if you decide not to continue. They are designed for "booklet" [folded 8.5 x 11] printing. 2. When the student comes to our home or is face-to-face electronically via Zoom, the rate is $25/hour. Zoom sessions are one-on-one, flexible, effective, convenient, and fun. I prefer NOT to travel. 3. If I do drive, the charge $35/hour but only to homes within 10 miles of Westminster [Bolsa and Magnolia intersection]. 4. I do offer discounts after a number of sessions.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For ESL, it varies some with the student's goals. Typically, mid-career professionals wish to improve pronunciation and vocabulary skills, often in a business context [emails, reports, resumes, etc.] Younger students want help "everywhere." We spend a little time exchanging background information, concerns, and strategies. Then - for class-related tutoring - we look at a particular problem or assignment and work through it. Typically, the student reads the materials that I provide. Based on listening, I can assess issues like accent, cadence, and pronunciation. What happens next varies with the student and the material.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do not actively seek out the latest developments from outside sources. Of course, feedback and questions raised by students and colleagues point me to changes in education philosophy and objectives relevant to them.
