WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! I really liked this company. They moved my two room apartment, a full garage and a 20' x 10' storage unit in the same day. They worked quickly and cleanly. My favorite thing was how Oscar took care of our closets. He packed and unpacked all our closets saving me countless hours of work. Very happy and I highly recommend Mario and his team.

Tony and his company were highly professional, on time and true to their word. The job included wrapping crystal and a 12 piece place setting of vintage china. They were very careful and pointed out where some of the china was already chipped. The job also entailed lifting and wrapping a 60 year old china cabinet which they were very careful with. Overall we have no complaints and will recommend them to friends and family for all moving, storage and wrapping needs. Thank you Tony and Chris for a job well done!

We used NEWS Moving Co. for a move to a new storage space on the other side of town. They not only moved all of our storage boxes, but they also disassembled, transported, and reassembled all of our storage shelves. Dalila and Justin were a pleasure to work with. They were prompt and responsive to all of our requests and were very affordable. Dalila and Justin were very thorough - they visited our site twice to ensure they were accurately invoicing us for the work they were doing. I'd recommend NEWS Moving Co. to anyone!

I hired Flash Moving and Storage 6 days prior to when I needed them. I recieved a call about 20 minutes prior to arrival and met Mark and Ivan. They were quiet but vey nice wgen spoken too. They worked quickly and efficiently. My family made the huge mistake of only hiring 2 movers when we could've used 3 or 4. It took the guys about 6.5 hours to complete the move. They only took one 15 minute break. I felt horrible because I had no idea it would take remotely that long and didn't buy them any food. I have them a heavy tip at the end, and hope that made it up a little bit. I wpuld definitely use them again if I needed movers.

We had a fantastic time working with them to move our things from a storage unit in Carpinteria to our home in the Pasadena area. Highlights: - The main guy we dealt with, Alex, basically looked like a Russian god Olympic athlete. Kind of startling, actually. Very strong, and also remarkably polite. He seemed more refined than one might expect a moving guy to be. - His work partner, Nick, was also quite strong, fast, and skilled. Good sense of humor, too, which made things more fun. - I called a number of places, and these guys were definitely the most economical option around. They even knocked off a bit of time on what they charged us, due to traffic factors, which was generous of them. They seemed to make an effort to be generous and fair, there wasn't any exploitation involved. We still tipped them generously (hopefully generously enough) for doing a great job, since they deserved it. - They did a good job shrink-wrapping lots of furniture and other stuff, and also protecting everything with other tools at their disposal (pads, tying stuff down, good placement of items, etc.). It seemed like nothing at all budged during the drive. - I had the sense they really cared about doing a good job and protecting the furniture and other items from damage. - They were remarkably fast and efficient, didn't waste time talking, and had a great attitude. - It's hard to trust your precious things to people you don't know and have just found online, but these guys were completely trustworthy and we would hire them again.

He moved a large, heavy credenza. It was turned down by 3 charitable organizations that wasted my time by assuring me on the phone it would be removed, but each time their movers rejected it. Brett is careful, professional and pleasant.

Everything about this move has been difficult, except for today. Mike & Shaw were EXCEPTIONAL. They arrived early, got everything into the trailer, and moved into storage so quickly it's almost unbelievable. I cannot thank them enough for helping us move our moms things, and for doing it with such generosity and care. We are definitely going to be rehiring them to move her into her new home!

I had a great experience with this company to move my 1 bedroom over to a storage unit in la. I found the team to be timely, efficient, thoughtful, friendly, and wildly helpful. When it came to my storage unit, they worked like tetris to get everything to fit. I'd definitely recommend roadway and will be using them again!

I hired Global Tree in spite of the reviews I saw that they had been late in the past. After Ben and his crew arrived it became obvious immediately how hardworking and effective they were. I realize now that they had likely been late in the past due to their commitment to execute perfect and highly satisfactory work for whatever client they are serving. I spoke with Ben before hiring him to explain that I expected he be on time and he gave me a solid timeframe he could guarantee being there and then showed up EARLY. They got the entire move of a large studio out and over into a storage unit in less than 3 hours and I couldn't believe how much they could fit into their trailer. I am also eternally grateful for their puzzle-solving skills as they were able to stack everything beautifully in one half of my unit and still allow my tempurpedic to lay flat on the ground in the other half. I will 100% be hiring them again when it's time to move things out of storage. Give these guys a shot, you won't be disappointed!

Best experience we've had with a Safe N Fast Movers ! Not only was the pricing more competitive than other companies but they were right on time, very efficient, and very friendly. Our move was a bit stressful because I am nearly 9 months pregnant and we are downsizing from a 2 bedroom apartment to moving into a room at my parents' home for their help once the baby arrives. Over the past 8 years we have accumulated A LOT of stuff - add in all of the baby stuff and it is quite a lot! We ended up getting a storage unit to house most of our items while we go thru this transition period and I had underestimated the size of storage unit we needed. I stood back and watched these guys handle it like the pros that they are and play tetris to fit every single item into the storage unit. I was so impressed and so thankful for them! We also had them make the first stop at my parents where we had to swap out some furniture - couches, bed frame, mattresses - and they were very quick but also careful especially when moving a very heavy marble table out of the way. All in all these guys handled everything like pros, moved SO quickly (but carefully with our belongings), got to both of our destinations as fast as we did with our cars, and helped us problem solve the storage unit dilemma. When dealing with a move - time is money - and these guys respected that and did not slack off for one second. We ended up tipping them generously (over 20%) because we were so grateful. THANK YOU for making this move a little easier for us !

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

Alex and company are amazing! We were being strung along by our big-name moving company, and needed to be in Missouri to start a new job. After yet another delay, and yet another "guarantee", we were desperate and found AmerApex Moving. Alex contacted us on a Monday and by Thursday, they were there! They were absolute lifesavers, and did everything they could to take care of our belongings and make us feel at ease. And then they were in Missouri by Saturday to unload everything in our new house! On top of that, they are incredibly friendly and made a stressful situation feel much lighter. We can't thank Alex enough, and wish every moving company out there could be half as professional and effective as his!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
