Will was absolutely amazing. He had everyone dancing and singing along. The party was perfect and not once did I have to worry about the music. I will definitely use him again!

Kevin, You ROCK!! We had so much fun listening to your music the other evening at the birthday party bash. We especially enjoyed when you played oldies by the great artists of the 60's and 70's. The Beatles are my favorite group and you played their songs to a tee....Their "Birthday" song was so appropriate. You're quite the entertainer!! Thanks for a wonderful time. Everyone had a blast because of the joy your music brings. I can tell you really love playing music because you kept the audience wanting more. You're awesome and fun!! We're amazed that you can play so many different music types. Will you please play at my wife's birthday party next month? We would recommend you to anyone. We'll be watching for your public gigs and will try to attend all of them! Your very ADMIRING FANS.....Mike and Genie

Robin was the perfect partner for our party. The way he works makes it feel like it't "we" not us and him. It really felt like he was all in to ensure things worked out. Very responsive and thoughtful, which created a high degree of trust that proved to be legitimate. He managed sound for a party in a park where determining the power source was challenging and when the weather was very up in the air, but he did everything he could to make sure all went well. And it did, all at a very affordable price. Couldn't recommend him more.

Catherine arrived ahead of schedule and ready to perform holiday piano music for our employee party of more than 250 people. She made our old upright piano sound like a magnificent baby grand. She played for two hours straight with no duplication of music. Lots of great compliments from the crowd. We would gladly hire her again!

WOW!!! Tremendously talented, purely professional, and extremely entertaining!!! After reviewing many options, I had the pleasure of working with Anton for a private party in Greenwood Village. We were looking for a highly skilled musician to decorate the event with the sound of the violin. Anton is truly one of a kind and a master of his skill. He plays with such passion, delight, and enthusiasm… all of the guests were smiling, dancing, and complimenting his incredible technique! Anton was exceptionally punctual, set up quickly, played the perfect selection of melody, gathered his equipment, and was on his way as the party was winding down. Besides his astonishing skill, Anton is such a kind, detailed, and caring individual. He made sure that the entire night went smoothly and to perfection. Thank you Anton for the beautiful memories of a beautiful evening! You are simply the best and I am looking forward to working with you on many future events! Helen Bovin Keller Williams DTC

The Steve Manshel band played at our corporate holiday party and absolutely could not have been better! People were talking about them for days afterwards. You can't beat a great band with a great set list, and this one has it all!

My husband is a huge music fan so we spent quite a bit of time searching for a band for our wedding. He likes more of the classics where me and my girlfriends wanted pop/dance music. Daddyblue was the only band we found that played every style flawlessly. The reception was an absolute blast. Even my grandparents danced most of the night! We were so delighted. Thanks Biff! My daughter is still talking about Elastigirl from her 4th bday, as are the other kids that were at the party! Her level of enthusiasm was awesome. She literally entertained 20 kids 6 and under for 2.5 hours, which is a miracle. Thank you taking the time to research the role and the heart you put into her bday celebration. So hard to find entertainment if your daughter doesn’t like princesses!

Kevin was a great private lesson teacher for my 8th grade percussionist! He was very flexible and accommodating with scheduling, and the wise instruction he provided allowed my son to get the highest rating possible at Solo and Ensemble, win a distinguished scholarship award at the end of the school year from his band, and earn a coveted position in the high school drumline as only a freshman. Kevin provided insightful coaching which expanded my son's repertoire of instruments and technique.

I have worked as a classical pianist for many years, and having attended many weddings with less than quality musicians, I was quite worried about hiring a quartet for my own cocktail hour! Red Rock Strings has several audio clips and videos available online and after seeing these I was put at ease! Not only is the quartet punctual and responsive as a business, but the musicians at my cocktail hour were charismatic and entertaining. We were so glad that we hired Red Rock Strings — our guests LOVED their popular and classical music and they truly made our event extra special. Thank you Red Rock Strings!

We’ve worked with SocialLight Photo Booth for the last several years and have yet to be disappointed. The SocialLight team is young, fun, professional and easy to work with. As we see the “new age” photo booth trend continuing to soar, we know whom to call when we’re looking for creative and innovative backdrops, silly props and photos the guests always leave smiling about. They’re one of our most sought after vendors, and we’re extremely impressed with their ability to keep a party exciting and entertaining! We look forward to the many events we plan to have with them in the future. – Kate Ryan, Co-Owner of Gold Leaf Event Design & Production

There are truly no words to describe my love and appreciation for both Turi and Hipster Mama Productions. Working as an Director of Events in the Media world I have used a couple of bands at both smaller and larger expos. Her professionalism, her passion and her love for her clients is one I will never never take for granted. I love her so much, she is the band at my sisters wedding coming up in Summer of 2016. If I could recommend any of her bands, I would say you wont be disappointed. They are truly the best!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
