FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There are at least 2 things in your world that are priceless - your child and his/her education. By hiring me, you're investing in both. I am experienced and professional, as well as a licensed teacher. You will quickly discover that seeing your child's self-confidence and math skills improve is priceless!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I strongly believe that you cannot touch a student's brain without first touching their heart. When I first meet a student, my first priority is connecting with him/her on some level. I don't want to just come in and be some adult lecturing at the student, especially with math. Math is such a sensitive topic that I want the student to be comfortable with me before we begin to engage in math tutoring. Once I feel like we've connected, I then offer a pretest for the student to take so I can understand exactly where the knowledge gaps are and we can begin to work on building a stronger math foundation. Also, I ask the student if s/he has any specific questions on topics currently being worked on at school. It can be a pretty full first meeting, but it is vital for future math successes.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from Michigan State University and a Master of Science degree in Math Education from Marygrove College. I have taught all ages from 6 week old infants to adults going back to college for a career change, though most of my experience comes from teaching math to middle and high school students.
