My name is Shane Miller and I love sanding and refinishing hardwood floors. I’ve been refinishing hardwood floors in and all around Denver, Colorado for around 16 straight years.
When I was a baby, I was fortunate enough to be adopted by my incredibly generous grandparents. They would not only shape my values and my character, but also the work I would do. Fast forward to turning 14, I found the need for video games and Taco Bell, but had no money to pay for it! I needed a summer job. My grandfather told me I was always welcome to assist him and I took him up on it. I had no idea that it would be the only job I would ever have.
I remember the first summer well. Contrary to my expectations, finishing hardwood was NOT an easy skill to learn. It turns out there are countless ways to ruin a floor during the refinishing process. Learning this while working in clients homes and not on a test floor was very challenging. The expectation from my grandfather was always perfection, so that doesn’t leave much room for error. It was certainly a very unique and sometimes high stress experience.
During this time of my life I would also learn to deal with loss. I lost my mother, my grandmother (who raised me from a baby) and great grandmother (who lived with us) in the span of 2 years. The only consistent part of my life during this time was my grandfather and this work. The work of sanding and finishing wood floors. I know it’s silly, but it was the one part of my life that I could control. Through my grandfathers teachings and years of practice I would learn how to masterfully craft a wood floor surface.
How does this apply to you? Well this means that I am incredibly specialized. I have specifically been sanding and finishing wood floors for 16 straight years day in and day out. Doing no other work. This is my absolute area of expertise. When you hire me you’re also getting all these years of experience and sharpened skill set. And when it comes to hardwood sanding and finishing, the skill of the craftsman far outweighs the debt of having the shiniest new German tools and vans. I’m just lucky I was able to learn it all from the best.
I know that hiring a contractor or company to work in your home is very difficult. Which is why I’m so grateful for all my past and future clients.
