I have one dog and 4 cats. Elizabeth came in every day for almost 3 weeks. All were taken care of, litter boxes cleaned, etc. etc. One cat needs meds and she did that a well. I am very pleased and would use them again.Very reliable.

Lissa took excellent care of my two dogs and cat over an extended weekend getaway. I was so pleased with the communication and attention to every detail that she provided every day. Lissa was very careful to follow my instructions and guidelines. When I arrived home, it was obvious that my dogs were very well cared for, exercised and in a very calm and peaceful state. I've had previous experience with other pet sitting services where I arrived home to unkept, anxiety-ridden, and over-excitable pets and it was so nice NOT to have to re-train them. It was also a great benefit to get regular text messages every day along with beautiful pictures of all three of my girls, giving me peace of mind while I was away that my animals were being shown a lot of attention and love. The service I received with Lissa has made it easier for me to plan weekend getaways and deal with my hectic work schedule, knowing I have someone so trustworthy to take excellent care of my pets when I am unable to. Thanks so much, Lissa!

Hi...my name is gigi Mitchell...I discovered Vipet Sitter Ser 13 or 14 years ago.I needed a dog walker for my 2 little Bichon's," Scotch and Soda"....Cindy, the owner, came to my house for our first meeting. I was very taken with her kind professional business tactics, animal knowledge,...compation..., and all the services she had to offer. You can be sure I wouldn't let 'just anybody' be responsible for my 2 little buddies !!! And she doesn't cost an arm and a leg....She has very well earned her "best pet sitter service' all these years....She's one in a million ! gigi Mitchell.

Tina was a breath of fresh air upon meeting her and knew I could trust her with my cat. She treated her like it was her own pet and she truly has a love for animals. Animals can sense someones personality and my cat absolutely loved Tina and would just go limp when she would pick her up like a baby and my cat would be so happy she would drool!! I would recommend Tina for any pet sitting needs and you will not be disappointed!

Jennifer Lind is the first person I call for pet-sitting, and for any help with animals. She is knowledgeable and experienced, and seems to bond well with every living creature. She raised her incredible horse from the time he was a tiny foal and has a bond with him that is the stuff of young girls' dreams. Each time I speak with Jennifer, she has a new animal experience to share. She and her family recently rescued and raised baby squirrels. Jen has currently been raising goats that follow her around outside. When our little dog was missing, we called Jen to help search for her on her horse. Jen discovered a buck with his antlers thoroughly tangled in our rope hammock! We rounded up some wrangler-types to help cut the buck's antlers loose. In the midst of the procedure, someone needed to sit on the buck to keep him still on the ground while others cut through the woven ropes of the hammock. The person who straddled that buck was, of course, Jennifer. Jen is a kind and compassionate young lady. She is polite and ever willing to help and to go the extra mile. She has determination and follow-through, the ability and the integrity to get the job done. She knows what she's doing, she loves what she's doing, and she gets the job done well. I have had much experience with Jennifer Lind and couldn't recommend her more highly.

Victoria with Furever Behavior Dog Training is a wonderful trainer. Our dog was a rescue who had lived on the streets and he had many issues. Our dog guarded his food and toys, did not know basic obedience or manners, was not housebroken, did not know to come when called, did not know how to walk on a leash without pulling my arm off, did not know about or like his crate and more. After working with Victoria, we learned how to give our dog the cues he needed to get the behaviors we all wanted. He quickly learned to love his crate as his safe and special place, housebreaking was rapid and our dog learned to trust us. Victoria gave us the tools and skills we needed to be good dog owners and our dog responded positively and swiftly to Victoria's techniques. And, speaking of positive, Victoria only uses positive training methods -- no punishment. And our dog loved, loved, loved Victoria. Well done!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

        • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
        • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
          • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
          • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
          • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
        • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
          • Horse training: $20 per session.
          • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
          • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
          • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

        What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
