FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At the height of the recession in 2008, the private company I worked for laid me off. Before I was laid off, my boss told me to look for another job because he was about to let me go. I looked for another job and found a job as a part-time tutor for A+ Educational Centers. After I was laid off, I worked as a full-time tutor. I worked for the tutoring company for four years and immensely enjoyed helping students do better in school. I've had two career changes in my life and teaching is the one I like best. It dawned upon me that teaching is my higher calling in life. When I moved to Denver in 2012, I started my own tutoring company and have since worked with private and public school students.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I usually help my students with homework and projects, give them supplemental work to enhance their learning, and provide them with tips on how to organize, takes notes, and prepare for tests. Since I'm a great speller, I give my students techniques on how to improve their spelling skill. Likewise, my ability in paying careful attention to details has helped me analyze and understand difficult math problems which I gladly share with my students.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I advise a customer to carefully interview potential tutors about the services they offer, their experience, and success rate with other students. Experienced and skilled tutors charge between $25-$40 per hour for their services.
