About Pets 'n Pajamas Overnight Sitting

hired 1 time on Thumbtack

I've been a pet owner all my life. I adore animals and try to see things from their perspective to keep them as happy as possible. I've worked as a vet tech, and I've also done home care for chronic and critically ill cats, so I'm comfortable with medical procedures like pilling, subcutaneous fluids, shots, blood sugar checks, and assist/syringe feeding. In addition to dogs and cats, I also have experience with snakes, lizards, birds, rabbits and tarantulas.

I focus on overnight stays, where I'm with your pet in your home for at least 15 hours a day or more, depending on your needs. This includes meals, walks, play sessions, cuddles, sleep over, and any other activities that are part of your pet's routine. My rates for overnight stays start at $60 a night, depending on location, number of pets, and a few other factors (see pricing details below). I have a very flexible part-time job that allows me the freedom to work around most scheduling needs, and there are many days that I can spend the entire 24 hours at home with your pet.

Special needs pets are my favorites. If you have a dog or cat who is shy, skittish, on a special diet, or in need of very particular care by someone who can follow detailed instructions, this is where I excel.

If you'd like me to sit for you, I'll come by to meet your pets before you leave and take plenty of time to discuss the details of their care. I'll want to know their normal habits and behaviors, to help recognize if anything is out of the ordinary when you're gone. In addition to attending to your pet's needs and providing lots of closeness and attention, I'll water the plants, take out the garbage, and bring in the newspaper and mail.

My goal is for you to relax and enjoy your trip, and for your pet to feel comfortable and loved while you are gone. I can provide multiple references to confirm that I'm a conscientious, reliable, and caring pet sitter. So far, all of my first-time customers have become regular clients.

I carry full liability insurance.

  • 5/5 stars Pet Sitting Verified Review

Lynn did a great job with our two doggies. I highly recommend her and will definitely use her in the future! Our dogs were excited to see us when we got home but not to the point that they drove us crazy:) Haha More like, oh you guys are back, we didn't realize you were gone, we had a fun week! One of my dogs was very sad and whimpered when Lynn left.

  • 5/5 stars

I just hired Lynn to pet/house sit for 7 days and nights while I was travelling internationally and unavailable. I have 8 kitties, several with special needs. Lynn is a mature woman, experienced with pets, but most importantly her care and compassion for the animals cannot be surpassed.
My house was spotless as if she wasn't there. I asked her to eat food I left, but she brings her own and tries not even to leave a footstep! If she'll come to help me again, I will use her again and again. I found her through an internet search, and I thank my lucky stars that I did. Happy to speak with you if you would like a conversation and I have given Lynn permission to give my name out. I checked her out thoroughly with her landlord of 5 yrs, who also gave a glowing report.

Question and answer

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. One of my favorite pet-sitting homes belongs to a collie named Benny and four cats. Benny likes to bark at strangers and takes some time to warm up, but with a little patience he's a lover. Two of the four cats, Willow and Woody, were feral kittens who still had some remaining fear of humans. Willow was so afraid of new people that she would not come up to eat, so I took food to her hiding spot where she could eat in peace. After several days, she came out for her meals and would play with me, keeping a comfortable distance. Woody quickly decided I was harmless and slept next to me in the bed.

Fergus, Moon and Jasper are another favorite bunch. Moon and Jasper are big dogs on a raw food diet that require feeding throughout the day. Moon has some health problems, so she gets medication and needs her legs rubbed when her arthritis is bad. Fergus the cat was my constant companion and best buddy, always in my lap.

Another favorite job was for three dogs, an Airedale, a giant schnauzer, and a pit bull. The Airedale, Charlie, had cancer and was nearing his last days. He needed daily medications and special supplements added to his food. I kept a close eye on him to make sure the other dogs didn't push him around in his frail condition. He was one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met, and even when we took a trip to the vet for a check-up, he was happy and enjoyed the ride. The other two, Lillie and Emma, loved to wrestle and play, and I had so much fun trying to wear them out.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love all of it and feel like the luckiest person in the world that I get to do what I do.

The very best part is that it's my job to cuddle and play with animals, which means my top priority every day is also my favorite thing to do.

I love that I get to interact with both animals and people in my work. Pet people are the best people in the world! I love my clients, probably because we share an understanding that doing crazy things for the love of our animals makes our lives richer and happier.

I also enjoy getting to live in different places for short periods. I've always loved exploring, and this is a way to experience the neighborhoods here in a way I could not do otherwise.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I started pet sitting when I lost all three of my pets to old age and illness in the span of a year. It was too soon to bring a new family member home, but my desire to love and care for animals hadn't lessened. Since I was also looking for an enjoyable and meaningful part time job, things fell into place for starting a pet sitting business. I feel very fortunate to do what I do. There is nothing better than knowing that the priorities of your heart and the priorities of your work are the same.
