FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've had a fair amount of informal and formal training under many different private teachers, a degree from SMU in Music - where I studied classically with Alfred Mouledous, a world renowned pianist who studied directly under the lineage of Chopin. When I hear a player I enjoy, I study them extensively. Now, if it's in person, I often will try and do a shared lesson with them, where I hear what they have to say and vice versa. Or just hang out and exchange theories.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Passion, plain and simple. I love music and I couldn't keep away from it, so I decided to finally make it my primary means of making a living. Never have looked back! About me: Well, my name is Wil and I am from Kansas City, new to Denver! I have had the extreme fortune of studying, teaching and playing all around the world with different cultures and genres of music. I have lived, played and taught in Kansas City, Dallas, San Francisco, Oakland, Australia, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico, Chicago, Nashville and finally Denver. I'm here to stay for a good while too - I aim to create lasting relationships with my students. I taught AP music theory while I was IN high school, graduated as the top pianist of one of the top 10 jazz bands in the USA. In college at SMU, I studied Finance, Spanish and Music Composition, but turned my focus to the music school, studying classical music under Alfred Mouledous (world renowned pianist) and focusing my free time on jazz. I played and taught at a company called ABMusic in Perth, Australia which taught Indigenous Australians how to assimilate into society through the use of music. I recently moved here from Nashville, where I was teaching private lessons and group ensembles at Belmont, Vanderbilt and the Nashville Jazz Workshop. I recently was hired to teach a course called "Speaking the Language of Music" at Art of Audio near Golden, or west Denver.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
All walks of life. Young, old, male, female. We all have music inside us! As long as the student is wanting to learn, I take them on - as I was once told, it takes an expert to teach a beginner.
