Introduction: My years teaching in public and private schools, from pre-school through junior college,have given me experience with people of all ages and backgrounds. My "3-P" approach (personal, practical, panoramic) centers on making each student's music education experience fit their own learning style and make a difference in their overall development. I provide music for weddings, funerals, and special occasion parties - alone or with a network of other musicians, both instrumental and vocal. I will strive to find a way to incorporate the music that you want for any occasion. I love working with students, 1-on-1 or in small groups, and seeing them develop the tools necessary to better understand and appreciate music. Many people don't get the chance to learn how much talent they have hidden inside, as they go through the school system. Private lessons allow me to help them blossom at their own pace.

Both our teen boys love Mary. She caters the music to interest them and is very patient with their learning styles. Bradley plays the guitar and Christopher the piano. Hearing her work with both boys during their first lesson, I quickly realized how proficient she was with both instruments. Highly recommend.

I am just getting started with my lessons. Mary has been very helpful in getting me started in my journey to learn how to play guitar. She has even provided me with a guitar to play while we determine if I am a left-handed guitarist or a right handed guitarist. She has been patient and very encouraging as I struggle thru some awkward moments and a lack of coordination. ;)

Mary has done a great job with teaching me how to play guitar! I'm a beginner and she has taught me all of the basics and music theory. She's also provided books for me to take home and practice, which has been extremely helpful. Definitely recommend Mary for anyone wanting to learn guitar from a more technical side.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The only complication might be where I travel to students' homes. Then it depends on where they live and how far I need to travel. The rates are basically: In studio: $25/half hr., $35/45 min. $45/hr. In home: $35/half hr., $45/45 min.$55/hr, within about a 20 mi. driving range
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically try to interview the customer by phone or email before the first lesson, so that I have an idea of what materials we'll need. I often loan instruments to new customers who are in the process of buying their own. I use the first session as an evaluation of previous experience and current interests for older students, and introduction to some basics, for total beginners.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm not taking any formal classes at this time ( I do have a BA in Music Education and a Masters in Music Performance) but am constantly reading up on the latest studies in educational research. I'm constantly reminded of the contributions that music education can make in a student's life, especially in the areas of brain development & activity.
