We would recommend A Music Plus 10 out of 10 times! Emilio was an incredible DJ and responded to our guests requests all night and played exactly the kind of music we love and our guests needed to keep dancing for 4 hours! We had a multi cultural wedding and A Music Plus was prepared to cater musically to both cultures! We loved having them as a part of our day! Definitely hire them for your next event!

We used Karen for my wedding in 2014 and couldn't have been more pleased. From start to finish she had every detail down! Karen really listened to my vision and when I showed her pictures knew exactly the direction I was headed. She made my wedding day and two years later I still dream of those flowers! We went back to The Garden Path recently for my grandfather's funeral. My mom just trusted that Karen would take of everything. And of course she did! Driving to the church herself to make sure the arrangements were set up properly! We can't say enough good things about The Garden Path. The next life event requiring floral arrangements will take us right back to Karen!

Kevin, You ROCK!! We had so much fun listening to your music the other evening at the birthday party bash. We especially enjoyed when you played oldies by the great artists of the 60's and 70's. The Beatles are my favorite group and you played their songs to a tee....Their "Birthday" song was so appropriate. You're quite the entertainer!! Thanks for a wonderful time. Everyone had a blast because of the joy your music brings. I can tell you really love playing music because you kept the audience wanting more. You're awesome and fun!! We're amazed that you can play so many different music types. Will you please play at my wife's birthday party next month? We would recommend you to anyone. We'll be watching for your public gigs and will try to attend all of them! Your very ADMIRING FANS.....Mike and Genie

Brooks'n'Friends were an amazing part of our wedding reception! We had a wide variety of ages (0-95) and the music was enjoyed by all. They were incredibly friendly, timely, and went above and beyond expectations. I highly recommend them for any party you might be throwing! The songs were timeless classics that everyone sang could sing and dance along to. All my song requests were met beautifully :) The experience was incredible and very special! THANK YOU ALL for the lovely night of music and dancing and laughter!

Michael Lancaster provided guitar music for our wedding ceremony. His style and the music that he played were exactly what we were looking for for our ceremony. He provided us with exactly what we wanted and helped take any stress out of the ceremony music planning part of the wedding. He was readily available for communication prior to our wedding with excellent ideas for us which we greatly appreciated. His guitar playing was beautiful, perfect for our ceremony, and was exactly what we were hoping for.

If you are looking to have beautiful piano entertainment at your wedding or event, I would highly recommend Cathy Paz! She played the piano at our wedding ceremony as the guests arrived and we had so many wonderful comments about her talent. From romantic music, holiday music, traditional or modern, Cathy can play it all! Not only is she a joy to listen to, her personality lights up the room. She is a positive gal to work with and a blessing of musical beauty! 5 stars and beyond for sure! Cathy was an amazing addition our wedding day ceremony.

Celebrating our 30th anniversary we were looking for a non-invasive band that could read the group and know when to let the audience talk and also keep the celebration going. With the Dance floor they provided a fantastic balance of mellow and lively dance music. They learned our wedding dance song and played it perfectly just for our pleasure. Their quick response to our inquiries was very timely and led to an effortless and care-free portion of our party. I give the trio my highest recommendation and I assure anyone who engages them that the only time they'll experience any disappointment is when the band stops playing.

I commissioned a song to surprise my husband with at our wedding. I had written the lyrics years before but had no musical ability. She did an outstanding job of capturing the emotion and tune I wanted and her piano work was delicate and beautiful. She was also very reasonably priced.

Wirewood Station is a very fun band! They recently played our outdoor wedding and everyone loved them. Their music set the perfect vibe for the evening. In addition, they were punctual, professional, and even learned a few songs we wanted to be played! I highly recommend them.

I would most definitely recommend Sydney's piano lessons! She is a very helpful and patient teacher; not to mention, she is also a very skilled musician. Her piano lessons have set a great foundation for me in music. The knowledge that I have from her lessons helps me to play with other musicians and to play in my school marching band. I have learned much about music theory from Sydney as well as a love for playing piano. If Sydney hadn't moved away, I would still love to have her as my piano teacher today.

Scott provided a 4-piece bluegrass band for my sister's wedding. He was knowledgeable and learned all the songs we needed for the toast and first dances and played them well. He was willing to make changes at the last minute and he was very professional. Great band!

My husband is a huge music fan so we spent quite a bit of time searching for a band for our wedding. He likes more of the classics where me and my girlfriends wanted pop/dance music. Daddyblue was the only band we found that played every style flawlessly. The reception was an absolute blast. Even my grandparents danced most of the night! We were so delighted. Thanks Biff! About

Mature, professional, experienced, seasoned. Mobile live musicians and DJ's are largely a fly-by-night bunch. I have been doing this at a serious top-shelf level for over 15 years, and I take every event as seriously as though it were my own. Music and entertainment are one of the most important aspects of your function and the quality will reflect on you for years to come; don't cut corners with a budget-priced newbie.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
