Introduction: I understand what it's like to be a new yogi- just a few years ago, I was in your shoes. It took courage to keep showing up at classes where I felt out of place. In fact, it took me years to get back on the mat after my initial exposure. I made the mistake of 1) overestimating my athletic ability, and 2) attending over-crowded classes at my gym, which were anything but introductory. Looking back, these were quite advanced classes. But how was I to know? What I know now is if I had understood the fundamentals- the lingo, how to prevent injury, and how the postures are supposed to feel- before attending classes with more advanced students, I would have grown to love yoga much sooner than I did. I eventually got back on the mat and a few years later, I've completed my Yoga Teacher Training and am starting my business working one on one with brave people like you, who seek the (vast) benefits yoga offers. Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) requires 200 hours of contact time and additional outside hours studying and completing personal experiments. My training, which I completed in June 2014 with Axis Yoga Trainings in Denver, covered more than just learning the ins and outs of the Asanas (the physical postures most people commonly refer to as "yoga"). We discussed philosophy, history, and spirituality, learned breathing techniques (called Pranayama), and studied the ancient system of natural healing called Ayurveda. Besides assisting you with customized yoga (Asana) sessions, I'm more than happy to share my knowledge about the other, lesser known, aspects of yoga that are frequently not covered in traditional group yoga classes. I'm very patient and place importance on making other people comfortable and confident in their practice. There is no one-size-fits-all to yoga; each of us has been given unique bodies that come with various challenges and strengths. My aim is to know each of my students well enough that I can develop customized sessions that are safe, enjoyable, and suitable to each persons goals. Sharing a practice that has had profound significance in my life. Helping people become their best selves. Giving people confidence to grow their practice on their own or in the classroom.
