Outstanding. Professional. Came over same day to give me a price. Showed up on time, even after I asked if we could switch the original time to earlier. Fast and friendly. Nothing broken or damaged. Will highly recommend them to all friends and family. Will use them again in the future. We've used other movers before, this is so much better and easier.

My partner and I just moved 400 miles, from the Front Range to Southwest Colorado, last week. We were utterly THRILLED with the service Fast Friends Moving provided. To start with, theirs was the most affordable quote we received - in fact if it wasn't for Fast Friends, we couldn't have afforded professional movers at all. Because of the low quote, we were a little worried that they would try to charge us extra after the move, or treat our stuff roughly, or... any of the other zillion things that can go wrong with movers. On the contrary, they were phenomenal. They arrived right on time, loaded the truck in under two hours (for a decent-sized 3-bedroom house), drove the 400 miles in about 8 hours, and then unloaded our truck quickly on the other end - all in the same day! Other movers estimated three days for the whole move. They were also respectful of us and our stuff, happy to help move things to the right location in the house, and honored their initial quote. We could not be happier with the service they provided. Thank you Fast Friends!

These guys worked very hard to get the job done, did the best they could, and powered through this difficult move (a large home gym). They were a pleasure to work with, and we will recommend them to friends and use them in the future. Because they were late to the appointment time from unfortunate circumstances, they more than worked with us on the price of the move. One of the movers had almost 30 years of experience, and the other man had exceptional experience as well. I trusted them every step of the way with my property, and they did not disappoint.

This was my first time ever having movers help with a move. The main reason for this was moving to a third story apartment and it being Super Bowl Sunday. The weather definitely took a turn Saturday night and we woke up to snow and 19 degrees. Bret, Brayden, and Kris were there on time and started immediately after conducting a walk through first. They were energetic, fun, and respectful. They moved super quick as well! I kept receiving estimates from other movers as well as Skyline stating it could take 6-8 hours. They only took 5 hours! I would highly recommend Skyline Moving Company. Knowing that they (1) only charge an hourly rate, (2) do not charge for shrink wrap, (3) offer 5% military discount, and (4) are fast and friendly; I would highly recommend them!

We were moving from our rental in Boulder into our newly remodeled home not far away. ThePrecision Movers guys helped us for about 6 hours. We had a great experience. The guys were respectful, hard working, and very flexible. We were concerned about not dinging up our new home with move in, and the guys made a huge effort to be careful. We originally hired them to move our big items but they were so easy to work with, efficient, and accommodating that we just kept moving forward. They took the time to put things where they go in the house which made settling in so much easier. They didn't just dump boxes in a big pile in the living room, they took them all to the rooms they belonged in, sometimes moving them again when asked. Kevin kept saying, "we're here for you, whatever you need." THey were so nice, I went and bought hot dogs and cooked them all lunch. They were great.

Although our move was local, we had an additional stop to drop off and pick up 2 refrigerators and a dishwasher, and a very heavy, one-piece wardrobe/entertainment armoire. We had three movers --all very professional, courteous. They had no trouble wrapping and securing the pieces, and helping to move other furniture out of the way when needed, and set up one of the fridges--no problems. The moves were basically effortless for my sisters and me. We are quite pleased things went so well. The movers were on time (even a bit early). Not sure that we could have asked for more. I would definitely recommend them for price as well as service as movers.

EZ moving with Mario was a great experience! Their price can’t be beat and both movers were very timely and professional. I even had a heavy object that needed to be moved to the dumpster and they didn’t hesitate to help out! I would highly recommend this team to anyone needing to move!

Linda is wonderful and our house was beautiful after the move out clean. However, one of her workers was so old he could hardly move and the other spent more time walking around talking and 'sighing' than working. The movers commented several times that he wasn't working. Though exhausted, I ended up having to help clean myself to get the job done on time. Would have been much faster and probably much less expensive had her helpers been able to work as hard and quickly as Linda. She did give me a discount to compensate for her staff. Hopefully she can find a better team to take the pressure off her in the future.

The movers from this company were prompt to arrive, professional and diligent in their work. Didn't find any problems with them or their work so it was all good. Their rates were great too. I had previous experiences with movers before and this one was far better than the rest. Great company indeed.

Jennifer Barley put your private email Just completed my second move with this company, and I couldn't be happier. Based in Denver, they originally moved me from Colorado to Houston a year ago. Very helpful movers, and were quick & efficient. All of my stuff arrived in a timely manner, and without any damage. So, when I decided to move back to Denver this month, I did spend about 2 hours shopping around just to see what market prices were. However, everyone came in nearly $1000 higher than my first move with Eden's. I thought maybe this was due to inflation or being in a growing city. So, I called Eden's for a quote for my second move, they were happy to help, and again quoted me almost $1,000 less than all of their competitors. Today is moving day, and I assured them that an 18 wheeler could be accommodated on my street. Upon arrival, I was proven wrong. Knowing I was flying out tomorrow, the Eden's team went into quick action, rented a Uhaul, and improvised. They were back on track in less than an hour, despite my screw up. I don't normally write reviews, but seriously this company deserves it. I would recommend them to anyone, and if you are lucky enough to get Remy as your foreman, or Barry as your moving coordinator, expect superior customer service and professionalism! These guys just made my stressful move so much less stressful! THANK YOU!!

Jay and his associate, I forgot the name, were great. I will definitely recommend and use them again next year. They were quick and efficient with moving my belongings. There were a couple blemishes but I did not expect everything to be perfect. Their supervisor called me after the move was completed and provided a discount on my next move for the minor issues. I appreciate feeling valued as a customer. The movers worked their butts off. Again, I will recommend and use again.

Peter is very kind and communicates well with all aspects of the scheduled move. The cost was very competitive for the time of year although there was an increase due to the movers taking longer than quoted. There was a missing item left on the truck and Peter went made sure the item made it to us. I would absolutely use Alhood again.

Would recommend Alhood to anyone needing movers. They were able to be flexible with us start time (due to a delivery window). Unpacked a 17' storage unit and 12' moving truck jam packed with stuff in 3 hours with 2 movers. Very fast and very professional with positive attitudes. No damage to any items.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
