Gutter cleaning of heavy pine needle debris in a two story bi-ievel house. Francisco arrived when scheduled and spent several hours cleaning and bagging the needles. Also installed spout filters to catch future debris from clogging down spouts. Cost was reasonable and in mid range of estimates received. I would have no problems hiring again and recommending to family and friends.

Mike was in contact with me and called about getting roof/gutter access to the back of my house and we were able to resolve it over the phone. Mike was very responsive, efficient and did a great job on clearing my gutters ahead of the next big storm.

Forest and his team are fantastic. They tiled, trimmed and installed all the flooring for a new house I built. I originally hired them just to tile but after it was clear that I couldn't lay the flooring myself, Forest's team stepped in to help. Then I lost my trim crew due to timing issues and, again, Forest and his team stepped in to do the job. Forest has fantastic ideas for design and functional use of space and his crew can implement them all! They're way ahead of schedule - I can't believe how quickly they work - and Forest's pricing is very competitive. I'm looking forward to working with Forest and his team in the future!

Ian and Skyler replaced exterior trim boards on my house (tudor style). They were able to get to boards that I couldn't or wouldn't replace myself. Ian was responsive to my need for assistance on short notice and both were willing to tackle some difficult tasks.

Daniel and his team helped my wife and I transform a house built in 1906 into a modern masterpiece. They did an UNBELIEVABLE job at a very reasonable price. At first, I was a little hesitant to use them as one reviewer perviously gave them a wretched review, but I couldnt be happier with the end-results. They completely remodeled the basement, added 2 bathrooms, re-did another bathroom, dry walled multiple rooms, built an amazing egress window well, installed a water heater, sewer ejector pump, kitchenette, and laid tile/ flooring throughout the house. Separately, on a personal level Daniel and his crew are some of the nicest individuals you'll ever meet. IF YOU ARE EVER ON THE FENCE ABOUT USING DANIEL AND HIS CREW DONT BE....FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME AND ID BE HAPPY TO SHOW OFF HIS WORK. This certainly wont be the last time we use him. We just made a major move across the country and were looking forward to make significant renovations on our 1963 house. We contacted 3 different contractors whose bids were so high that we were shocked and put off. We decided to try one more time and contacted Anaid Enterprises. We were relieved when we met Leroy because he put us completely at ease and informed us that many of our projects could be handled within our budget. Leroy was extremely professional, courteous and patient as he helped us prioritize our decision-making process. His in-depth knowledge of contracting, costs and materials was the ideal formula for us and allowed to finish our projects in a timely manner. We were relieved how diligent Leroy was about showing up on time each day. This put us at ease and let us relax about getting competent work in a timely fashion. We were thrilled by the final product and would not hesitate to hire Anaid Enterprises again. Thanks Leroy!

Hire This company! Hire Jake & his brother! I had the nightmare of nightmare general contractors come into my home and leave it in shambles. The electrical was left dangerously disorganized. Jake and his brother showed up and worked around the clock to make sure the whole house was 100% safe and ready to go for me and my family. It feels great knowing people like Jake have your back and will make your home safe secure modern and functioning exactly as you like. I’ll use these guys again and again. Thanks for your work guys! A old house that needed a little help from Loch Kilpatrick's skilled hands. He skim coated the upper level, living room, kitchen and one room on the lower level. The end product turned out great and his price was in the ball park for a quote I received from a friend who is a general contractor. I am pleased with the end results and would recommend Loch for any drywall repairs.

Abstact builders is a great source for me. Silas has worked on older homes so is familiar with the things he could run into. Although mine is over 100 yrs old. Puting in a window in the kitchen seemed easy enough til it didn't pop out and he found it bound in lath and plaster. No one freaked out but it took saws and patience, and new ideas and Silas had all that. He is not working continually but constantly working in one part of the house or another, finding what works and what doesn't, reorganizing the way things need to be done instead what CAN be done to get it overwith. I am very impressed and by the time he is finished this will be a working model that is also beautiful and still a very old home. 7

Tim came over due to a flood we had in our basement because we initially thought there was a mold issue, our house being older Tim explained that asbestos might be a factor. He got us in contact with an environmental consulting company called BTG & Associates to come out and take asbestos samples of the floor tile and the drywall. Both companies were punctual, honest, and very knowledgeable. Without Tim we wouldn't have even thought about asbestos being an issue. Money well spent to say the least. Not only did he do clean and safe work to remove, him and his subcontractors came back and rebuilt our drywall and flooring in the basement like we never had a water loss.

My husband and I had an outstanding experience working with Allcon Builders. We were looking for a reliable, professional company to add a wood patio cover to our back porch. Matt called us back right away and went out of his way to find out exactly what we wanted. He spent time talking with us before making his plans and was extremely understanding if we wanted to make changes. Throughout the process, everyone was great to work with. It was clear that Matt wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied. We love how our cover turned out and will definitely be using Allcon for any future jobs or projects we would like to take care of around the house. I highly recommend using Allcon if you need any work done, big or small.

Lori managed our whole-house reno that started in January. We finished the monumental project under budget, ahead of schedule, and our house looks like a magazine spread. She used her contacts to save us money on carpet, solid flooring, kitchen countertops, cabinets, trim, doors, and tile. Her guys were all professional and did quality work on everything they touched. On top of that, she knows the best places to shop - our house is brand new but still has a personality. I was hesitant to hire a designer, but it more than paid for itself with the cost savings AND I didn't have to deal with any of the drama. Love my new house! Never moving.... ever!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
