Many DJ's will use a prepared song list when playing. While this offers consistency it does not offer spontaneity or originality. Also these DJ's may be less likely to play a request for fear of disrupting their program. Every show I do is mixed live based on your requests and crowd response so every show I do is unique. Also many DJ's do not beat match anymore. Beat matching is combining two songs together so that they sound like one prior to mixing from the 1st song to the 2nd. It is both a skill and an art and requires much more work then just simply fading from one song to the next. When songs are beat matched together people tend to stay on the dance floor longer as they can dance without missing a beat. A DJ who does not beat match is not better then having an I-Pod connected to some big speakers. Finally, most DJ's these days are using small speakers with built in amplifiers to make it easier to move their equipment. I use separate, quality loud speakers with 15" subs and separate powerful amplifiers connected to signal compressors for the absolutely best crystal clear sound which can be turned as quite or as loud as you desire.
