We had a slow drain that didn't respond to drain uncloggers nor a visit from a previous plumber; it's been a problem for months. Enter Squeaks. Alex was courteous and professional. In under than 30 minutes, he arrived, assessed the issue, provided a quote, got the materials he needed from his vehicle, came back in and fixed the problem. Additionally, he provided recommendations for follow-up treatments that were honest (suggesting as-needed services instead of "just in case" routine maintenance) and a $2 Home Depot solution for a separate problem that could otherwise have been a costly fix. While he could have made more money for his company by advising otherwise, it's this type of honesty and great service that will win him and Squeaks referrals and repeat business from us down the line. Thanks, Alex and Squeaks!

We had the best experience with Rashad/ Pipe It Up. We were in a pinch over the weekend with no water because of our leak, and the first person who came out tried to take us to the cleaners and totally rip us off. Rashad worked so hard to fix our problem, he was so kind and honest, and he did excellent work! He is our go to plumber from here on out!!

The technician was punctual and professional and successfully unclogged my kitchen sink drain and was very accommodating about also cleaning my bathtub drain. I was a little concerned when he told me he was not sure where the clog was in my kitchen drain and could not use his drain cleaning snake, but in the end he figured out it was in the trap and was able to open it and clean it out by hand.

The main valve to the sprinkler system was leaking under my house. Marvin arrived quickly the day I called, and fixed it in under an hour. I was very happy about that! I was charged an awful lot for the job, even using their $55 off coupon. It cost far more than I expected for a new valve and labor. My receipt isn't broken down by cost of part and cost of labor, but checking prices for valves, their labor fees are huge.

Had a sump pump installed. Patrick was quick to communicate, came over to give an estimate and was honest and thorough. When here to do the job he explained exactly what he was going to do and kept us apprised on his progress. Easy to talk to and took the time to answer our questions. Very neat and clean, too! We are very pleased with the job he did and plan to have some other things done with this company in the near future. Highly recommend!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

      • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
      • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
      • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
