I used Kurtz Videography for my wedding in December. They were hired to video tape my wedding ceremony as well as part of my reception. I was completely under the impression that they were professionals and that I would have a wonderful wedding video to show my family and friends. Unfortunately when I received the video back I was extremely disappointed to say the least. For example, they cut out major elements of the wedding ceremony including me walking down the aisle. They would zoom in extremely close and the zooming was jerky. It was impossible for someone who was not at the wedding to get a complete view and understanding of the ceremony based on the video. Additionally, at the reception, during our first dance they failed to coordinate with the DJ or move their camera so that the up-lighting would not cause my groom and I to look like blue Smurfs during our first dance. We had our siblings, best man and maid of honor give speeches and toasts. They did not tell these people where to stand, so therefore, the camera was shooting at the back of their heads during these important speeches! Overall, the quality of this service was very disappointing. Unfortunately, we were not able to show our video to our family and friends and have not been able to use it for anything. After many requests and attempts to contact him, Michael finally refunded us 75% of the money. For anyone considering a video service, I would ask to see samples of previous work.

Very nice record of my dad's funeral service with military honors. Jaime Peak was responsive and easy to work with. The video was nicely done and included everything that the family requested.

We hired Jaime and Kurtz Video Services to do videography for my daughter's Colorado mountain wedding. We were anxious to see the final product, and the term "money well spent" has never been more appropriate. We pretty much didn't even know they were there (except for the big high quality cameras), and yet they captured it all. What a great way to relive the day for many years to come!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a firm believer in being a consumer of your craft so I watch a lot of films, tv, and videos to gather information and techniques. There are also come great resources out there like magazines, books, the indy mogul channel, and conferences demonstrating different techniques and equipment. Michael and I are both constantly consuming this stuff. I also travel to film festivals and mingle with my fellow filmmakers. There is often no better resource than your peers. Even when I was doing my undergrad, my teachers were all active in the industry and I learned more from them than any other source.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been making movies since I was in third grade. Of course, back then they were just silly home movies with my friends but they gradually grew in sophistication as we grew older but I never thought I could do this as a career. When I went to college I wanted to double major in film and marine biology but both majors were so intensive I had to choose one if I didn't want take seven years to complete my undergrad. I decided on marine biology but after a year I missed the creativity of film desperately and I decided to switch majors. I truly found my niche in film and enjoyed every minute of it even though I had to take on a heavy production load in order to complete the major and graduate on time. After studying all aspects of cinematic digital production in depth, I found my strength in directing. I also found that I was rather adept at editing and a decent cinematographer. In my ever constant pursuit of becoming a better filmmaker I am always looking to improve and hone my skills and hope to attend graduate school in the future. I joined Kurtz Video Services in 2012 to continue down that path and serve others with my acquired skills.
