We hired Jeremiah to record session footage for the online viewing of an industry conference. The conference was two full (long!) days, and Jeremiah did a super job. He showed up early to make sure the A/V in our venue would work properly with his equipment, and answered all the questions we had. Throughout the two days, he was so easy to work with, was extremely accommodating, and went the extra mile constantly. He stayed late on the second day to deliver our raw footage straight away, and offered professional advice for editing. (We hired him for capturing the footage and we edited it in-house, so the extra advice was beyond the scope of the project and was so appreciated.) I would highly recommend Jeremiah to anyone considering hiring a videographer, we couldn't have had a better experience. Kenna www.modernsoapmaking.com

The Tack Sharp team was a pleasure to work with. They are knowledgeable in their craft and eager to provide great customer service. The team arrived several hours ahead of my event in Colorado Springs in order to test their equipment and collect both video and still images. They were delightful, polite, and respectful to my guests. I am so eager to see their final footage.

From our first conversation over the phone to our most recent email exchange about song selection, working with Windswept Media & Vincent, in particular, has been a breeze. I was a bit late in the wedding game booking a videographer, but Vincent totally understood. He was polite yet invested and right away made me feel at ease. Some vendors you just get a good feel about - Windswept Media is one of them. Over the phone, we talked about the ceremony & reception, who (my husband & I) are as a couple and what we wanted to convey through this celebration. When Vincent arrived the day of, I felt totally comfortable around him. For the most part, I didn't even see him except for glimpses of him running around. He has always been prompt with email replies which is so helpful to anyone trying to plan an even this complex. He has been wonderful to work with and I'm so excited to see the final product! I highly recommend Windswept Media to capture any special event in your life!

BornesPro Media did a job for me for a Christmas event. They were very professional, arrived on time, introduced themselves and went straight to work with little instruction and no supervision. They took family portraits of 25 families. BornesPro Media print all the portraits and I was able to present them to the families all within a two - hour window. Presenting the portraits was a nice way to commemorate the evening's events. I was very pleased with the quality of the final product.

Little Wren is amazing. I just recently had my wedding on March 4th in Colorado. Though we live in Washington, Mason did an awesome job communicating with me. When we finally met up in person, he was just as awesome. He really takes the time to get to know you and everyone in the wedding. Being a new business, we were a little skeptical with booking him but words can't describe how thankful we are to have given him a chance. Not only are his prices very reasonable compared to other videographers, but he is actually passionate about his work and wants nothing more than to give his clients what they want. With his packages saying "full day of filming," he really means it! Mason showed up just as the sun was rising and was one of the last ones to leave the reception. Now how many people out there are that dedicated to get just the right shots? Our wedding video came out absolutely perfect! My husband was really against wedding videos, but as soon as he met Mason and saw the finished product, he was really happy I talked him into it! Mason isn't only good at what he does, but he is genuinely a great person overall. He fit into the wedding as if he was one of our friends or family, even though we had only met him a few days prior. 5 stars is an understatement to how great this company is!

Shaun was a joy to have as videographer for our wedding. He was very kind and patient and made sure to listen to and incorporate all thoughts/visions/ideas that were thrown his way. My wedding planner and i spent months creating the perfect romantic winter wedding and after seeing the final product, i thought Shauns video captured the true essence of our wedding both in decor and spirit. I would definitely recommend hitting Shaun!

I've worked with Stephen a few times over the years, and the experience was always a great one. Few videographers I've met over the years carry the talent, passion and attention to detail Stephen does, but combine that with his infectious energy, and it makes for someone you want/need on set. Whether coaching a nervous interviewee, or socially throwing some cards around with us after the shoot, it's always been a great experience working with him.

Needed a videographer to highlight a concert event for me. Jordan spent the entire day (and night) with us and our celebrity guest shooting footage the entire time. The final product was absolutely remarkable. I have since then used Jordan for other projects and will continue to use him - only him. When it comes to someone who is actually a student to their craft it is most defiantly Jordan and it shows. He will deliver - no questions asked and 100% garuanteed.

Travis was our videographer for our wedding this summer and I can't say enough positive things about him and the experience! We booked him after seeing a "love story" he did at a friends wedding and knew we wanted him to do our "love story" and wedding video as well. He was so wonderful at making us feel comfortable during the video and was really well organized so the day went without a hitch. He's different from other videographers we met because I truly felt like he cared about us and went above and beyond to make our video unique, but true to us! He was great about meeting with us to inform us how the process works and was easy to contact when I had questions. Like I said in the beginning, we booked Travis the night of our friends wedding because we loved their love story and saw something special/raw talent in Travis that made us want to work with him. I would highly recommend him to my family and friends for a videographer knowing they would be in GREAT hands!

Kyle was extremely professional and well priced! It's so nice to know that we have such a gem in the Springs. He really went above and beyond to make my gala look amazing! Communication was extremely easy and Kyle was careful to understand exactly what I wanted for the video to taylor it perfectly! I've hired videographers before, and what I noticed about Kyle was that he can do a wide variety of styles in a VERY convenient amount of time and get phenomenal images. We will absolutely be using his services again soon!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

      • Package 1: $1,400
        • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
        • Two cameras with audio equipment.
        • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
        • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
      • Package 2: $1,800
        • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
