I am a professional singer currently performing with active vocal studios in Colorado. My interest is developing singers to become a better version of themselves and helping them reach their goals.

About Patrice Burgstahler's Vocal Studio

hired 22 times on Thumbtack

My teaching philosophy consists of an individual approach with each student. Each singer has different vocal problems, and those needs are directly addressed. This studio gives private instruction for singing with, above all else, the principles of a healthy voice and sound.

Private lessons are on a one-on-one basis for ages high school age, college-age and adults students within an hour, 45-minute or half-hour lesson, with half of the time for vocal technique instruction and repertoire selection for the other half. Musical coaching is available at no additional cost, and is woven into the lesson.

Teenaged students need to be at least 14 years old. One-on-one lessons 14+ strickly observed~

Voice students basically need to READ MUSIC.

Half-hour lessons are recommended for beginners. Beginner students work mainly for half an hour. For medium and advanced students, 45" lessons or 1 Hour lessons are recommended - 30" technique/30" repertoire.

1 Hour lessons recommended intermediate and advanced students and for "specific project oriented" singers~to prep themselves successfully! This involves many different aspects of being prepared for that VERY SHORT required audition - normally 1"-8".

Upfront monthly payment of four lessons with at least 24-hour notice prior to lesson cancellation to reschedule the lesson (switch/swap) is our company policy.

Weekly lessons are advised in order to establish a good foundation.

SPECIALITIES: Performance-oriented students. Singers who are at least 14+, college-age level and adult singers who are committed to taking weekly private lessons.

I accommodate beginning, intermediate and advanced singers who commit to weekly lessons. My specialties are classical techniques within musical theatre, art song, opera and commercial styles for singers who are performance oriented.

FALL 2015 REGISTRATION STARTS NOW for August 2015 and beyond and is ongoing within limited available time spots for the 2015-2016 year.

Teens who are 13 years old - Please contact me, a month or two before they reach 14 years old~ There are sound scientific reasons that I would be happy to explain, "why" young singers need to be at both a certain mental and physical level to study intensively in a "one-on-one" lesson.

She is a wonderful teacher and my daughter felt she was learning a lot.

Patrice B. from Patrice Burgstahler's Vocal Studio replied to this review on January 3, 2015:

    Dear Tracey,

Happy New Year! I never got a message from you~and was wondering why? Where and how did you contact me, I'm really interested as I do not take this lightly.
According to this web site the last time we spoke was 7 months ago. My e-mail has no record communicating with you either.

Are you still interested in voice lessons for your daughter, let's figure out a way to turn this miscommunication into a win-win situation.

Patrice is a delight. Her love of singing and music is inspiring. I felt no pressure to perform or reach a pre-set goal but to travel at my own pace. She took time to get to know me, my voice and musical preferences. I look forward to the lessons and releasing my own music.

  • 5/5 stars

Patrice is a wonderful voice instructor. She uses tools such as scales and tongue twisters to help warm up the voice and teach students to listen to the sound quality of their voice and helps them to improve the quality so they can more effectively reach out to the audience. She is very knowledgeable in all different types of music and is always willing to try something a little different. She has a great background in music and she has actively lived a vocal life as a singer around the world which makes her expertise invaluable. We have seen great improvements in our daughter’s voice and performance skills since she started with Patrice in February. We noticed immediate change in vocal quality and now we see greater confidence and a willingness to reach further into the musical world and try pieces that would have previously been beyond her ability or willingness to try. We have been with two voice instructors previously and Patrice out shines them all.

Very well educated. Set up proper appointment was on time and ready to go. Jumped right in with my daughter. Ella was intersteaded and wanting to learn more. We will keep her on with us. Thank you Patrice. Looking forward to many years of education from you with my daughter.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Voice lessons, audition preparation and tips along with performance oriented activities and stage presense. Also, recently coached stage speech preparation for live radio and convention presentations in professional settings on a national level.

My voice lessons and coaching are oriented toward ages 14-plus, high school and college level and adult students. I do not teach children under 14 years as they would benefit most by learning to play an instrument, such as the violin and piano, to develop their music skills and/or participate in choir/choral activities.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Do your research & do not expect music professionals to be "amateurs" in the music business. Project-oriented singers preparing for a specific audition or event or role need to be fully prepared therefore 1 hour lessons are recommended.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Do they read music? Are they ready to make a genuine commitment? It is important for the voice student to have these questions worked out before starting voice lessons in order to get the most from the lesson.
A three month commitment is necessary for geniune progress. Takes at least 8-10 weeks to change and improve any activity and develop new skills.
What are your goals: tone development, pitch control, increasing vocal range, correcting breathing technique, expressive singing, stylistic techniques, English pronunciation and diction?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My background includes both national and international performing credits as well as teaching experience. In addition to technical vocal instruction, I offer vocal repertoire coaching and audition tips to singers. Many of my current students are reaching their professional goals by showing up prepared for their auditions.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Working directly with my clients to achieve their goals. People as like flavors of ice cream, each one is unique.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. My customers are interested in vocal technique and repertoire choices for various musical activities and styles. They are auditioning for parts in organizations which range from community based projects to professional jobs. My answer is "Let's make it happen".

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. 13 year old voice students and younger need to be learning music fundamental skills in a group situation, like a choir or music camp, not one-on-one intensive voice lessons with a professional.

IT'S A PHYSICAL THING: The young persons' facial structure has not fully developed at that age or younger, not to mention their body.. no matter how mature or advanced for their age that parents feel their child might be~

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Music is a passion rather than a decision to participate. In my case, as far back as I can remember I sang and played the pianoforte. There is a photo of myself sitting at the keyboard, legs barely dangling over the side of the bench with my fingers on the keyboard and my mouth open singing....I was one years old.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Organized the Mike Ruckles Masterclass @ the Arvada Center, July 2014
14 Singers participated in the 4 hour master class on Vocal Techniques for Musical Theatre singers. Mike Ruckles, currently conducting for "A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder" (2014 Tony winner for Best Musical) did Q&A about auditioning for Broadway.

UPCOMING Performance Workshop on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 at 7:30pm

Performance Workshop on Tuesday - June 3rd, 2014 at 7:30pm
FORT COLLINS main stage. Performance Workshop - 1" monologue emphasis
Arvada Center of Arts & Humanities on Thursday - May 29th, 2014 at 4:30pm - This location will provide a "drop-in & sing" option for outside singers, who wish to try out their pieces, as well as weekly enrolled vocal studio singers.

Voice studio singers from the Arvada studio will perform their pieces with a professional accompanist.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Be fully prepared~It's not a business for the faint hearted or those who cannot show up ready to audition in a short window of time. It's an extremely, did I mention EXTREMELY competitive field? It's better to be over-prepared than to show up "half-baked". Those hearing you will not forget, for a VERY LONG TIME, your first audition and you might never get another chance to correct their first impression~!

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. Getting the job done~

Q. What are you currently working on improving?

A. Upgrading technical ability to record student's voice lessons with new ZOOM H4n digital recorder.

Requested voice lesson recordings will be sent to students with MP3 file format.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Do you recommend voice lessons for children under the age of 14?
In group lessons, yes! One-on-one lessons are very intense. They can benefit best by taking piano or string instrument lessons and learn music fundamentals before taking private voice lessons. Choir experience is also suggested.

Children under 14: 2015 SUMMER TIME GROUP SESSION ONLY~ Lessons are recommended in a group setting in which other performance skills are included such as monologue preparation, stage presence and music skills training. Vocal skills such as breathing, resonance and diction are touched upon lightly.
