What or who inspired you to start your own business?
Almost six years ago, an acquaintance said to me that she always noticed how "put-together" I looked. She said that she had a closet full of clothing but that she was bored with how she was dressing every day. She asked if I could come over and help her sort through her things, figure out what to keep and what to donate, and create some new outfits out of the items already in her closet. A light bulb went off in my head. I'd been doing this sort of things for friends and family for years and I realized that this, along with 15 years of work/experience in retail, could be built into a business for the next chapter of my life as a soon-to-be empty nester.
Describe your most memorable project.
I had a client who was a very busy senior executive. She had a closet full of sort of matronly, ill-fitting clothing, and she knew she needed an update in order to maximize her effectiveness in the workplace. She hired me to overhaul her look and to teach her how to put herself together. She was so smart, so open and so willing to try anything, but she ended up with a look that was authentic to who she was. Together, we created a look for her that fits her body type (plus size and petite), her age, and her position in life. It was an interesting challenge and when the process was complete, she looked just amazing. She was thrilled and so was I.
