Michelle took care of our home and sweet dog for 10 days when we were on a road trip. She did everything we asked and left our home in even better condition than we did for her. Our dog was well looked after and in good spirits when we returned. She took every care to ask all the quirks about our pet and home so that we didn't have to worry when we were away. She gave updates and sent pictures to reassure me while I missed my dog. I highly recommend Michelle for any cleaning, home sitting, or pet sitting. She loves animals and is a very thoughtful person. The amount of money we paid Michelle was also so much lower than a kennel would charge with better service, since our dog loves being in our home best. It was a very good situation for us and well worth the money.

Pricilla does an excellent job. My house is sparkling and smells wonderful when she leaves. Somehow she's able to get every bit of dog hair and dust. I trust her enough to leave my house while she's cleaning, which says so much!

From the beginning robin was fantastic, the first interaction was a free consultation where she met us at our home to go over the in's and out of how to puppy proof the house, and all be on the same level to training mind set within the family. Robin knows her stuff, she offered books to read and was available at all time for any questions. She was consistently on time and her passion for dogs is very strong. Having several dogs of her own she treats your dog in a very humane kind and loving manner to help develop a relationship of dog and owner as well as a companion! The training was very easy to pick up, without any confusion. After each training session she would issue a guideline of great detail how to continue the training we learned for that day. Our puppy had a bad resource guarding issue. Robin took the time to bring him into her home for several days to work on this issue without any added fees. I have recommended diamonds in the ruff to several other dog owners both at the park and or out for a stroll at the beach. Our experience with robin has been a great one hands down!

Lisa was a wonderful caretaker for my kitty. She gave her great quality and dedicated care, sent me photo/video updates and messages with every visit, did everything that I asked for and more. This kept me at ease while I was out of town for a week. Very grateful, and will continue to use this service for pet sitting!

Erika is an amazing person who built her company from the ground up. She is always early or on time, always interacts with the customer (owner), LOVES what she does. Has great success training, loving, and interacting with the animals. Overall I rate this as excellent due to the fact that she must be an animal whisperer. Highly recommended for anyone who needs training, walking, pet sitting and any other pet related service!

Natalie is a wonderful, animal loving person who is very professional and detail oriented. She took the time to listen to our specific needs and requests and was very flexible with our shedules. Our pup loves to see her everyday and she was even kind enough to bring him his own blanket! That was special. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a pet sitter/walker.

Lenny and Mary Ellen are the best of the best. One of my rescue dogs I adopted was abused and had severe separation anxiety. When talking to people about what was happening with the separation anxiety (totally destroying the house) I was told by most people to put him down. I refused and made it my mission to save this beautiful boy. I remember being so impressed with Lenny from 10 years previous at puppy kindergarten and I contacted him and his wife Mary Ellen put a program together for me to work with my beloved Buddy. Within a short time, by following the program Mary Ellen set up with me - Buddy overcame his issues and turned out to be one of the best dogs I ever owned. Also - Mary Ellen's grooming and pet sitting service is exceptional. I wouldn't trust my dogs to anyone else but Lenny and Mary Ellen especially due to their exceptional years of experience. As their motto goes - The Dog Comes First - that is the case with Canine Cadre!

We have used Lisa many of occasions and she has always gone above and beyond when watching our pups and taking care of my home when we go away. It is very hard to find someone that is trustworthy, dependable and responsible. Lisa definently has all of these qualities and more! We will be using her for all of our future dog sitting and house sitting needs. Thanks again Lisa, A.C.

Cheryl Funk has worked for me numerous times. She is a caretaker for my adult dogs and puppies at various times throughout the year. With gentleness and an understanding of a dog's needs, as well as having insight into the intricacies of pack behavior, she is well qualified to take care of these beautiful creatures. We will continue to hire Cheryl to walk and to train our puppies and our adult dogs. Best ever! Melanie McCarthy, Owner Cavachons From The Monarchy

Tara watched our cat while we were out of town and also checked on our mail. She was reliable and professional and I would recommend her to other pet owners. My cat is 17 lb and sometimes a grump, but he felt comfortable with Tara and I loved getting her text updates and pictures on how he was doing.

I hired June to be my petsitter for my four dogs. I have two elderly dogs, one middle-age, and a puppy. Needless to say, she had her hands full! June has been fantastic with all of them. She is so conscientious with them. All take medicine of some kind and each has a different diet. Making sure everyone gets what he/she needs (plus a little love while I'm away) is not a problem. She is a pleasure to work with. I often need her last minute and she's almost always available. As I travel a lot, I trust her to watch over the home as well. I know she will only contact me in a true emergency and I know she will do everything she can to help. All in all, I can't recommend June highly enough. She is a true professional.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
