FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30 an hour, but you will never pay more than $0.03 per word. A 10,000 word manuscript might only take 2 hours to proofread, so you would only pay $60. But, it may take 30 hours to do a developmental edit. However, you would only pay $300 because of the price cap. These rates include free re-reads of all drafts of the same manuscript and free beta reading. I always provide you with an estimate of my fees before any contracts are signed, so you can budget your editing fee.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When you contact me, I will ask you some general questions about your manuscript, such as the genre and target audience, but I will also ask to see the document. Over the next day or two, I will read through the document and provide you with a sample edit, correcting the spelling, grammar, punctuation and offering line-editing suggestions. THIS IS ALL FREE. When I return the manuscript, I will provide you with a quote explaining which services (basic proofreading vs. deep editing vs. something in between) I recommend for your document, a price breakdown for the various editing services I provide, and an estimate as to how long I think I will need for the project.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a master's degree in education and have been editing documents for over twenty years.
