Good and his team did great work. After getting quotes from several companies on here they gave me the best price to install a new indirect water heater tank and agreed to do the project immediately because I hada leak. There work was done perfectly and I have decided to hire them to install a water softener, neutralizer and ultra violet water purifier. I highly recommend them.

Jackson Parker of Next Generation Mechanical installed a hot water heater in my new house this evening and I am very pleased with how everything turned out. From the very beginning of the process, when I was choosing between prospective contractors, Jackson stood out from the rest in terms of responsiveness and value. He was very attentive and worked with me to select the most suitable water heater in terms of make, capacity and warranty. His price was very fair and the installation (and removal of my old water heater) went very smoothly. Jackson was extremely courteous and bent over backwards to ensure that my floors were protected during the installation. From watching him work, it was evident that he is quite conscientious and a skilled plumber. To say the least, I am very pleased with the installation and would not hesitate to recommend Jackson to friends and family.

Two leaking faucets in the older bathroom and shower installation in the newer bathroom and faucets as well. Very nice guy. Knows his stuff. Helped picking up good quality replacement items. We had a bit of a setback with the older facuets (never changes since 1941!). So the EM guy foud a supplier of these older parts and ordered and came back in a week and installed, Also minor leaks left behind which he fixed on a second visit. Pretty good experience overall. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because everything got so stretched in time. Admittetdly i'm kinda laid back myself, so it's partially my fault and in general it's ok with me. No I'm waiting for Edgar to come back and fix another item. YEah, thta's how it goes - you start with smth and then it turns out lots of stuff leaks and is too old and needs repair. Don't buy a house! :)

Hired company to replace old electric water heater with a new natural gas heater. I was contacted quickly and received a very fair quote for the work that had to be done with pretty much immediate availability. He was on time and completed the job without issue. He was courteous throughout the entire process. The only complaints I could have, and I am nick-picking here, is that there was some water drainage from the old heater outside on the driveway he could have washed away and one of the pipes he installed could have been routed better to avoid a high traffic area (high risk of being knocked up against). All in all though he was on time, polite, professional, completed the work he said he would...and most importantly for a fair price. I would definitely use again.

We needed to replace our electrical water heater which had burned out during one the winter storms. We originally tried to hire someone else from the Thumbtack site but he came, spent the day and after many hours informed us that the replacement heater that we bought was not suitable and that he was not responsible to help us pick the correct one. He also ruined our kitchen floor. Then I called Tom at Samsons who's price quote was the same as the first guy and he was happy to review our specifications, select and order the proper heater, and came and installed as promised. He was very organized and clean. He ran into a problem because the original installation was done wrong but he stuck with it with patience and professionalism and all is now working.

Hands down, these guys are the best Plumbing company around. I have used them for everything from water leak's, oil to gas conversion, washer/drawer install, on-demand water heater and a full bathroom remodel. Every project they did was excellent from start to finish. They make plumbing look like an art form. Every pipe was level, straight and neatly put together just the way I like it. They use drop cloths and floor protection everywhere they worked. The water heater they installed cut my gas bill down far more than they thought it would. Most important, I cannot Believe how they transformed my very old bathroom to a masterpiece. It's such a joy to wake up and take a shower now. I tried to replace my own kitchen faucet on my own and of course screwed it up. They had someone at my house within an hour of calling, completely fixed it and charged me a more than a fair rate to do so. I am very picky with whom I do business with but I have found a plumber for life. I have recommend them to family/friends and they all feel the same. Thanks Kenny and crew for doing such great work in my home.

Michael Konopka installed my new hot water heater today. He was very fast to respond to my first message, came in with a low price and did FAR- above-average work. He came when he said with what he said and did what he said. His work ethic is beyond a work ethic. A tiger of a tradesman, but a very friendly one as well.

AJ helped with a difficult water heater replacement that needed to be installed in a limited space. He was prompt and professional. Cost of the job was extremely reasonable, especially considering the extra man hours required for some unexpected setbacks we encountered. I would be happy to call on him for future service.

ESD installed a gas water heater. They got back to me right away over a holiday weekend. Answered all my questions. Arrived when they said they would. Were neat and orderly and installed shutoff valves for the heater (none were there to start with) at no extra charge. I would hire them again for any HVAC job

We've used Mark for all of our plumbing and remodeling needs since before I can remember. His work is top notch, his prices are fair, and every job he does he works as if it is his own home. I highly recommend Mark to all my friends and family. Mark is the only one I trust in my home and I have even left a key for him to access my home when I am not there. He has never told me I needed something fixed that didn't need it, like some horror stories you hear. In fact, I thought I needed a new water heater (EXPENSIVE) but he assured me it was just a few new parts that were needed. He could have installed a new water heater and had a nice pay day, but he is about doing what's right, not what's right by HIS wallet. Must call Mark!!

Louis is an exceptional business man who was very passionate about his work. Very neat and professional. I felt prices from Louis were more then fair due to the recent estimates I have gotten to get my on demand boiler and water heater replaced. Atleast 2,500$ I know he saved me. Also my sister just had the same unit installed 1 month ago and she paid 2,500 more then I did(ouch). I would absolutely recommend lrc mechanical to friends and family for future projects. Sis I’m sorry you paid more and mine looks nicer! lol thank you Louis and thumbtack for making this possible!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

    • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
    • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
    • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
    • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
    • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

How much does it cost to install a hot water heater?

You’ll know when it’s time to install a new water heater. Water heater installation costs average between $360 and $780 nationally, with rates increasing depending on the project. The total project cost will be higher when you include the cost of the heater itself. Select your new water heater based on the number of occupants in your home and the number of gallons of capacity you’ll need. Installation costs can vary based on the type of water heater you are removing and the type you are installing, any necessary repairs, regional cost of labor, and whether disposal of the old heater is included. Natural gas water heaters retail on average between $650 and $900 for standard models. Electric water heaters range between $300 and $700 for standard models. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $250 and $700 for standard models. Tankless gas water heaters retail on average between $200 and $1,300.

A company may charge approximately $1,000 to replace a 50-gallon tank-style electric water heater (not including any upgrades required by building codes). Replacing a gas-powered water heater might cost $1,100 (not including code upgrades). Some companies roll the disposal of an old heater into the overall cost of the new water heater installation. Other professionals charge an additional removal fee that can range from $35 to $150.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

How much does it cost to install a tankless hot water heater?

Tankless water heaters usually cost more to install than traditional tanks, because many homes need to be retrofitted to accommodate the new system. Tankless electric water heaters retail on average between $150 and $1,200, and tankless natural gas water heaters retail between $200 and $1,300 on average. The lower prices ($150-$250) are generally for point-of-use tankless heaters that can be installed to boost hot water in high-demand areas such as the bathroom or kitchen sink. Tankless water heaters designed to heat whole homes usually start under $300 at the low end and go up to $1,400 or more. Pricing for whole-home varies with the heater’s technology and features. Nationally, standard water heater installation costs average $360-$780, but tankless water heater installation costs may range from $400 to $1,000, depending on the work needed. Some perks of tankless water heaters are that they have nearly double the life expectancy of traditional water heaters and are generally more cost-efficient. Homeowners may be able to save $100 or more per year on their utility bills with an Energy Star approved tankless heater, depending on how much hot water they use.

How much does it cost to fix a hot water heater?

Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400 or more. Water heater repair costs will depend on the type of water heater you have (tankless, electric, natural gas, etc.), the source of the problem, the cost for new parts, and labor rates in your area. Common water heater issues include problems with the thermocouple, thermostat, heating element and leaks. Most standard electric water heaters have two thermostats and two elements. One example for the cost to replace a bad thermostat is $185 for parts and labor. Replacing both the thermostat and the heating element could cost approximately $150-$200. The thermocouple is a safety device that senses when the pilot light is burning and signals the gas valve to close if the pilot light goes out. If your thermocouple is bad or corroded, the average cost to clean and repair it could be between $350 and $400. If your water heater has started to leak, it is usually more cost-effective to invest in a new water heater than to repair it, unless you’re covered by a warranty.
